It's not just that Talarico won the Senate seat, and a Democrat—a Latina named Gina Hinojosa, in fact—has won the governorship. The state supreme court has gone from being 9R - 0D to 5R - 4D, and both chambers of the state legislature look on track to flip to Democrats.
In one fell swoop Texas has become a Democratic trifecta. That's a huge deal, because it means the Republicans have lost their ability to control future elections in Texas, and leverage state power to perpetuate their hegemony. I mean, Jesus, Musk is moving his base of operations from California to Texas precisely because it's a GOP paradise, but now I guess he'll have to pivot to some medieval hellhole like Idaho.
With this thing happening in Texas, I do believe the spine of national GOP power has been effectively and lastingly broken. I never would have guessed it possible that such a decisive sweep could occur in the Lone Star state in a single night.
Looking at other data, it seems it may not be guaranteed that the Texas Senate will flip, but the lower chamber of the Texas state legislature looks all but certain to flip. Also a Democrat has won the office of Lieutenant Governor, and the 15th appeals court has gone from being all Republican to all Democrat.

Texas is arguably the GOP's base of power. If the GOP loses its monopoly on power in Texas, I think it truly is headed for the wilderness.
