The SCOTUS never ruled and never would rule, that ANY student loan forgiveness was illegal. It shot down one specific program saying it wasn't justified by the law the Biden administration relied on.

SC decisions still are treated as the law of the land. They have an impact on what will be brought to them next. The judiciary is the third branch of government, after all.
