I'm rather at a loss over what was achieved with Greenland, and even more at a loss as to the "strategy" for going about achieving it.
Greenland, as part of NATO, was already a no-go territory for Russian or Chinese military bases. Should Trump next secure an agreement with France that Russia or China won't build a base in the suburbs of Paris?
The US has had a military presence in Greenland for generations, and based on historical precedent, there was no reason to expect that Greenland, Denmark, or any other NATO nation would have any serious objections to the US setting up an additional base or two, or upgrading an existing one.
Including Greenland as a self-governing signatory to the new agreement, in contrast to the old agreement to which only the US and Denmark were signatories, was not a concession from the Europeans, but a concession to them.
Getting Greenland and Denmark to agree to not let China or other non-NATO, non-EU nations to mine resources from Greenland? Is this the big new thing? Was that ever going to be hard?
So let's see. Trump alienated NATO allies and created an international crisis with his talk of "annexing" Greenland, causing incalculable ill will toward the US that will linger for years to come, only to quietly come to the negotiating table and hammer out a ten-page agreement that could have been done without all the bluff and bluster?
So what kind of leadership is that, anyway? It seems rather incompetent to me. The US got what it always could have gotten by putting on its big boy pants and coming to the negotiating table, without damaging relations and betraying a trust.
What was it the imbecile-in-chief screamed over and over again earlier this year? "One way or another we WILL HAVE GREENLAND!!!!" Over and over it was the same thing: the US absolutely must annex Greenland in order to be secure. Nothing less will do.
So, based on his own stated goals in the winter, Trump blew it, or chickened out, or surrendered, or caved, or however one wants to put it. Greenland is not going to become a US territory, and the world gets another object lesson in how to not take Trump seriously except in his capacity as an agent of general chaos and global destabilization.
@T-R-O-L-L saidMake up your mind, stupid.
I'm moving to Arizona/New Mexico as soon as we become a Territory 🤔
New Mexico blue, Arizona red.
@Sleepyguy saidHe doesn't give a damn if stuff gets done or not, as long as he makes money/gets false recognition or both.
I wish Trump wasn't an uncouth braggart and a-hole. But I am in support of a missile defense system to protect North America. I also like secure borders, illegal aliens deported, taking on cartels, the return to the Monroe doctrine, lower crime rates, Iran not having nukes, and attempts to bring manufacturing back the US. He gets things done, or tries to.
@Soothfast saidShhhhh... Don't tell them this.

It's a great win for the republicans. Super win. Best agreement they've made yet!
@Sleepyguy saidProcedures matter, not only results. Trump tramples procedures civilized peoples have lived by since Magna Carta. Habeas corpus and due process, to name but two procedures which ensure that innocent people who have legitimate reasons for being in America (their asylum applications may be pending, for example) are not rounded up and deported.

@moonbus saidYou do know there is a “procedure” for seeking asylum right?

@the-grifter removed their quoted postG'land has ALWAYS relied on our generosity and security. Nothing has changed. Your genius president continues to prepare our world for our grandchildren.
@moonbus saidOh like the procedures where the government funded NGO's to build a pipeline of bus routes, shelters, plane trips, hotel accommodations, and so forth to facilitate an invasion by millions? Where untold thousands of children went missing (trafficked as sex slaves)? Did those procedures matter? This is the way with you leftoids. You lie and upend every norm, then complain about norms as sane people try to undo the damage.

@Sleepyguy saidWhat ever are you talking about? "... untold thousands trafficked as sex slaves"??

This has nothing to do with Trump's violations of procedure.
This has nothing to do with Trump's illegal tariffs and end run around the SCOTUS to re-impose them after the SCOTUS declared the first round illegal. There is a proper procedure to impose a tax or a tariff, and an executive order is not it. When the statistics came out that his tariffs have not in fact added any new jobs, he fired the sect'y who released the figures and fiddled the numbers to make himself look good. This is why procedures matter, to stop this sort of cheating with numbers.
@moonbus saidWhat I'm talking about is that I don't believe you care a whit about proper procedures when the left is in power.

@Sleepyguy saidMentioning something like the Monroe doctrine while defending whatever the hell it is that Trump has "achieved" with Greenland - part of Denmark - is wild, but entirely expected of Americans.

All he gets done is de-stabilising the world, driving up prices, ruining whatever little trust we had in America.
@T-R-O-L-L saidMost Republicans do.
Doesn't matter to me.
I love the landscape of the American south west.
Red or Blue, I'll be living off of the state and your tax dollars just to spite you.
This is called "hypocritical". Congratulations for backing me up on this.
@Sleepyguy saidThis also is hypocritical.

After bitching for years about trillions added to the debt, look where we are now.
