There are many ways to take CO2 (Not Co2, that's diatomic cobalt...) out of the atmosphere, and not nearly all of them involve planting more trees. Unfortunately, all of them take a lot of money and effort, so they all fail on the lack of political, and more importantly mega-corporatist, will. However, if (not when, but still if) we can get through to the Bezoses and Alibabas of this world, we might be able to employ them.

By contrast, I know of no reliable method of taking microplastics from the sea that doesn't also involve killing a lot of sea life.
