Slave Reparations

Debates

How many of you have researched your ancestry for example on ancestry.com? Whether or not you do, here is a debate question:

What should a person do if they find out that they are a direct descendent of a person who owned slaves? Should they:

A) Think about how much they owe the descendants of slaves in reparations?
B) Think about voting for an elected representative who favors reparations using public tax dollars?
C) Fuhgettaboutit
D) Something else (provide comment)

This thread is for white losers who somehow enjoy self loathing.

Let us sit back and read their BS.

That's really interesting. I would not have expected that answer from you - knowing you through your many posts on this Forum.

Can you explain further?

Anyone white descendent who agrees to pay reparations to blacks because their great great great grandparents were slaves, are idiots, and need to have their brain examined.

Reparations only makes sense if it is paid to the people who actually suffered directly as a result of some wrongdoing, and should only be paid to the generation that actually suffered the damage and/or their immediate children. Not one soul more.

In the case of the western countries having African slaves, it was not considered wrong to own slaves back in the 1600. Slavery was practiced for thousands of years. Africans themselves enslaved other Africans and they are the ones that sold off their fellow Africans to the Europeans.

So I take option e]. STFU

My many posts are intended to support the idea of high taxes on the wealthy. Progressive taxation addresses ethnic inequalities without making race-based laws. the ultra wealthy are mostly white heirs.

What about the idea of flat or equal taxation, i.e. the same tax rate for everyone, regardless of where the money is coming from?

Inheritance up to $11 million is untaxed. It is income to the heirs, but it doesn't get taxed as income.

The wealthy don't pay FICA on cap gains and dividends. There is also a FICA cap on income above a certain amount (why?)

The long term capital gains rate should be treated as income rather than getting a "special" low rate of 15%.

Also - get rid of loopholes like depreciating commercial real estate 10% per year for 10 years when the property is always worth MORE 10 years later than when it is bought.

Why not just flat tax "income" - from all sources, without any loopholes? That would be in accordance with the 14th amendment that guarantees equal protection. And get rid of ALL tax breaks which inherently violate the 14th amendment.

So given that we are all several generations away from ether slaves or slave holders, you would say just forget about it?

All societies had slave masters and slaves or some kind. Progressive people forget about it and move on. Backward thinking people [and lazy bums as well] obsess over it.

But expelling most Jews from Israel in 70 CE, ending the Jewish state? We are supposed to remember that forever?

So just to be clear... Slavery. We forget about that as soon as the slave or the master dies.

But Jews being expelled from a piece of property? FIFY-SIX generations later, we are supposed to be holding onto to that fact!? And supporting "giving the land back" to the remote-remote-many-times-remote descendants?

Why? Why be so inconsistent? That makes no sense.

That is not acceptable. The utility of money decreases as more of it accumulates in a person's hands but the ability to acquire money increases. There is a snowball effect that needs to be neutralized and a flat tax would not do that. But a flat tax will force people to pay taxes on money they need to avoid homelessness while keeping taxes low for the insanely rich to whom income is only helping them get the high score.

Your interpretation of the 14th Amendment is interesting but requires unpacking. I don't see any relevance myself.

People arguing for reparations are not interested in "all societies" they are interested in the honor of their OWN society - the USA.

Great. Option C still applies. Forget it.
