@very-musty saidIt's true. The primary job of both parties is to keep the country split, providing themselves with comfortable positions of power by exploiting the split, and ensuring they all get rich in the process on the backs of the taxpayers.
(Right wing, left wing...it's all the same bird, man.)
I like that saying 🤔
Never heard that before.
The ones who are "Pro Life" really don't care how many people have abortions. They just care about getting all the "pro life" folks to continue to fund their campaigns and bank accounts. The ones who are "pro choice" really couldn't give a hoot one way or another about women's right to choose. They only care about getting the "pro choice" vote to fund their campaigns and bank accounts.
It's all hypocrisy, with each side able to point out countless grievances to their eagerly listening fans. 24 hour news cycle keeps the blood of all sides boiling.
@averagejoe1 saidHas anyone questioned those numbers yet?
From the Foundation of Economic Education:
"In 19 states, a family of four with two parents who aren't working can receive benefits roughly equal to a $100,000 annual salary. Across all 25 "Blue" states choosing to leave the benefits in place, the average unemployment for a family of four exceeds $72,000, significantly more than the median household income of $68,7 ...[text shortened]... hy don't you just leave things as they are and the rest of us will do our best to fund the programs.
@liljo saidThis sounds like the mantra of people who don't vote because they figure nothing will ever change.

@averagejoe1 saidInstead of a "Wealth Cap" of 30 mil, how about no wealth cap, but a 50% tax rate?
Short answer..... The corp board, who assesses the quality of work of the 'rich' officer of whom you speak, decides that he has made the corp a tremendous success. In the case of Apple, the corp is worth Two Trillion dollars today. The board is so happy with the work, and the genius, of Tim Cook that they (the board, together with stockholders, like myself) voted that ...[text shortened]... der and board meetings and take over. TAKE OVER APPLE! Jesus, who am I dealing with here.......
You'd still make money hand over fist and there would finally be enough to pay for infrastructure and programs to feed the poor and house the homeless.
Sounds like a win-win, except you and your cronies have always treated wealth in this country as a zero-sum game. You think in order to have your obscene profits, others have to have nothing. And you're totally okay with that.
@averagejoe1 saidThe corp board get together and decide how much to pay each other, same over here, it has nothing whatsoever to do with the productivity of the individual. It’s a scam on the working Joe / Josie.

@kevcvs57 saidThanks, yours is a good post for me to point out, once again, that this private (for lack of a better word) corp is legally established over somewhere doing their business, and you are having fun in the park, maybe waiting for the welfare office to open.

Tell us, how are you connected to what goes on in the board room which you refer to? You are connecting yourself to their production, their revenues.
So, here is the question. What if they meet this morning and say "let us close down the entire company, fire everyone, and split-up the balance in the checking account between us and the stockholders. Just close, and go home."
Would you have some connection or say-so if they do that? No, so how can you think you have a say-so about their day-to-day operation? A fair question.
@suzianne saidThere's been a study on how far the extra tax on the wealthy would go. I think it would last about 16 hours. Gets gobbled up fairly quickly. Drop in the bucket, my Granny used to say.

@averagejoe1 saidThe workers can walk out just as easily as the owner can shut it down.

The workers can also sabatoge the equipment.
No production... means no profit.
The owner needs the workers more than anything.
@very-musty saidBut, there is a question in my post. Would you have any say so if the corp closed and split up the money, since you think you have a say-so in how they run the business?

@kevcvs57 saidBut again, it is their corporation. Not yours, not that of the govt. Why can they not 'decide what to pay each other'? Are you going to come to my house next door and tell me how much allowance to give my kids?

@averagejoe1 saidCorporations are artificial entities that exist only because of the government.

That being so, it's certainly the People's business whether how they conduct themselves is in the best interests of the nation.
@no1marauder saidApple is artificial ? Don't confuse our readers, Marauder. They, and I, have no idea what your statement means, but we would be more entertained if you could answer the question. why don't libs answer questions. It may be a trick question to you, implying that you have control of the company if it closes, or if it makes money. Do you?

I look at these problems like an English teach diagraming sentences. What is the answer?
Have your seen the posts of that Musty character? Whew.
@averagejoe1 saidI think most people know that corporations are artificial entities that exist only because the government passed laws allowing their existence.

That you don't is your own problem.
@no1marauder saidGreat, let us discuss that fact, which is certainly a fact. We can also talk about the fact that they have boards, and stockholders. And they perform a service or produce products.
I think most people know that corporations are artificial entities that exist only because the government passed laws allowing their existence.
That you don't is your own problem.
Then, we can get back to my question which you will not answer.
Do you not find that a bit strange? Ask your own question of the Forum, rather than waxing on in Teach-mode, as does Duchess.
But first, could you answer the question? Whew.
@suzianne saidI've never missed a chance to vote in my life.
This sounds like the mantra of people who don't vote because they figure nothing will ever change.
By the way, what has really changed? Americans have been split politically for a long time, particularly since the turbulent 60s. In '1973 I think...Roe v Wade passed. Since then, there have been "Pro Life" presidents in office. There have been "Pro Choice" presidents in office. Both houses have fallen under conservative and liberal control. Politicians have run and won elections standing for each platform.
Roe v Wade stands. Nothing really changed.
Business v Environment. Higher corporate taxes v Lower corporate taxes in an attempt to close the gap between the very rich and the very poor. How's that working? The very politicians that run in support of this or that simply get richer and richer, while the poor continue to struggle.
But yeah, I'm a very consistent voter.
