I think people are jumping on a bandwagon but they also care. It's just that their attention is being directed at Tibet.
I think it's more that some people are grabbing on to something on the spur of the moment, without knowing what they are actually protesting about.

Do people actually care about the situation in Tibet, or are they just jumping on an easy bandwagon ?
Discuss.
Also, can anyone tell me why people protest in places like France when China is the problem? Perhaps it is because in France they won't get put before a firing squad. ๐

People are grabbing this issue now because of both the bandwagon effect, but also because there is a real chance of pushing governments to increase diplomatic pressure. When the Olympics is over, the window of opportunity of their protests having any real effect also disappears.

Tibet is part of China, has been for hundreds of years, and home to only 6 million people. Why shouldn't China keep it ?
Oh, and there is indeed Oil in Tibet, which could be a reason that George W has recently been pictured with the Dali. To suggest that China was uninterested in Tibet before would be ludicrous, so i'm sure that is not what you're suggesting (There's no oil in Taiwan, as far as i know).

Are you pushing your western ideals onto others ?
Originally posted by huckleberryhoundMy point is, if a territory like Tibet is so vastly different than China in terms of culture/religion etc., why would China continue to insist that it be a part of China? Why the need for the headace? Is the plan to slowly assimilate them into mainstream Chinese culture or is it to continue to club them over the head for the next thousand years to get them to submit?

However, since you have shown that there is indeed oil in the region I guess you answered my question. They will never let them go!!

It's different to protesting here, yes of cause and different to protesting in France- yes!
