@booger saidIt does work. The BBC, for example, has been sued and forced to print retractions and corrections for false reporting.
Nobody is going to run a website where they are accountable for the content when anyone can post.
If you mean news networks and writers then I agree with you but the masses of regular people cannot be regulated.
And who decides what is right and wrong?
The twitter files show everyone that a biased side can and will censor and cancel opposition even when they are the o ...[text shortened]... you regulate that scenario?
No news stories until it's a known fact? I don't think that can work.
@moonbus saidRetractions do nothing.

What's that?

I agree with you about accountability for news networks.
I thought you meant individual posters making comments. My apologies.

@booger saidWe need the numbers on the negative effects of those shots made public. In addition to that true real numbers of COVID, not the over-inflated numbers we have been told because whoever was pushing the fake numbers needs to be named.
They also suppressed COVID info about the Vax being unsafe and now young people are dropping like dead flies.
@booger saidLosing court battles and paying fines don’t do nothing; they make editors cautious about printing unsubstantiated rumors. That’s why Trump’s claim about massive voter fraud didn’t get a hearing in print media: he didn’t provide any evidence, and still hasn’t.
Retractions do nothing.

@booger saidSo I can go on truth social or fox with an anti Trump rant can I?
@KellyJay
Well said but did you conveniently leave out who was doing this at twitter?
Liberal Leftists Anti Whites.
Fixed that for you π
Once again for the halfwits in the forum Twitter is a PRIVATE social media outlet and has every right to moderate the content in order to maximise its profits by attracting the people that their advertisers want to target.
In this case people who don’t think Trump won the 2020 election and that teaching actual US history regarding slavery is not an anti U.S. conspiracy.
Lying right wing scum like you can indoctrinate your own kids until the cows come home but you do not have the right to indoctrinate mine with your Qanon BS
Your kind don’t visit social media sites you infest them.
@kevcvs57 saidSuppressing voices who are expressing opinions about a health issue, even those with years of experience in the fields to promote one side of a discussion, is not the same as ranting hate towards someone, as you seem quite good at here.
So I can go on truth social or fox with an anti Trump rant can I?

But US govt officials violate the constitution when they request censorship, on twitter or anywhere.
Fixed it for you.
@kellyjay saidTwitter has policies for all this. If anything the twitter files show how much deliberation, debate, and thought went into some of these controversial decisions. There wasn't some lib wizard of oz pulling levers. These were difficult issues to navigate.

Elon musk comes along as a free speech savior and he's banning reporters within weeks. This isn't a problem with easy fixes.
@wildgrass saidIt showed the government was saying what was acceptable speech and what wasn't if you are okay with that regardless of who is in power, you've lost your freedom of speech.

@kellyjay saidI think they probably made a mistake there. Twitter decided it was misinformation if medical information differed from CDC guidelines. Ultimately twitters decision though, not the government.
It showed the government was saying what was acceptable speech and what wasn't if you are okay with that regardless of who is in power, you've lost your freedom of speech.
We've had lots of debates here in the free speech thing. It does not seem reasonable for twitter as a company to treat all posts as a legal speech issue and treat it equally. I don't think corporations should be forced to publish all information it receives from all users and treat it equally.
You don't need to use twitter as a news source. In fact, you shouldn't.
