My thoughts are simple, what is there to interpret. If you watch Fox you will find all the stuff that Dems want to do, letting prisoners out, having no prisons, not having students pay for college which means ?? pays for it. Such as that. Pick one out of my paragraph above and tell us where I am wrong. Mangione is FILMED shooting a man in the back, cold blood, and could likely be acquitted. People like you amd Marauder write LOVE LETTERS to these cretins, and. could end up on a jury. Imagine being in a jury room with a Marauder or an MB on the panel. God help us.

Equating books with cell phones is inaccurate. In the pre smartphone era, whole generations of people were not reading 15 HOURS of books on average every day. Also, modern tech has made us dumber, while books make us smarter.

Well there was also my Commodore 64 and for some people the TV.

Consider a surgery that could augment your running speed by grafting hydraulic robot legs to your legs. While you run way faster, your real legs atrophy and shrink like you were confined to a wheelchair.

That's what is currently happening to human brains. There is a lot of academic research on the subject. We are less smart than previous humans because we've off loaded the task of thinking which is what makes people smart in the first place. Students are graduating high school lacking the ability to write an essay and the teachers are like "who cares because Claude can do it."

What the Greeks dealt with was recitation vs. reading. There's a clear difference in how brains process those 2 things, so that's an understandable issue. But in both cases, the information entered a human brain.

That's not happening anymore. Here's an explainer with research on the subject:

Last year researchers at MIT’s Media Lab ran an experiment that got a lot of attention. They took 54 college students and split them into three groups. One group wrote essays using ChatGPT. Another group wrote essays using Google for research. The third group wrote essays using nothing at all, just their own brains. They did this over four months, wearing EEG headsets so the researchers could actually see what was happening in their brains while they worked.

The results were honestly kind of scary. The ChatGPT group showed the lowest brain activity of all three groups. Their neural connectivity, which is basically how different parts of your brain talk to each other, was significantly weaker than the other groups. And it got worse over time. The more they used ChatGPT, the lazier their brains got.

But here’s the part that really got me. When they tested memory, 83% of the ChatGPT users couldn’t quote a single line from the essays they had just written. Not one line. They had literally just written these things and they couldn’t remember what was in them. Because they didn’t actually write them. ChatGPT did. Their brains never engaged with the material in the first place.

The researchers called this “cognitive debt.” You’re essentially borrowing thinking from an AI and your brain is paying the price later.

So we need to either be preparing for a future in which someone can "write" something without ever knowing what they wrote, or shape a future where we ask students to think.

Most of us can’t walk as far as when we had to push handcarts to market and we can’t memorize epic poetry any more either but that doesn’t seem to bother you.

We’re getting what YOU call dumber.

That doesn’t mean we are less intelligent.

There’s a reason smart people have been associated with technology for as long as I’ve been alive.

Whether it’s the Asian-American kid on American Gods invoking Technical Boy by writing a program that can emulate Mozart, the hacker kid from War Games or Sheldon Cooper and “The Woz” congratulating each other on their virtual presence devices on The Big Bang Theory it’s all over our media because it reflects a truth.

Intelligence and tech go together.

See, here you're looking at the margins. The highly intelligent will always exist. But the average human intelligence is declining. And their intelligence is declining because they spend 15 HOURS on their phones every day, instead of doing things that used to build cognitive power and critical thinking skills. The average person's brain doesn't do those things as well as in prior generations. And those people also vote.
