@spruce112358 saidBe careful with the details when you design the ranked choice voting system. We call it preferential voting here, and a lot of stuff happens behind the scenes that is not what the voters expected. It only works properly if preference deals between dodgy minor single-issue parties aren't allowed. It's possible to end up in a parliament holding the balance of power with only a few hundred votes.
@AverageJoe1
As you next President, I promise:
1) Medicare for all.
2) SS Reform (no income cap; means testing; SS levy on cap gains)
3) Constitutional Amendments to:
- automatically balance the budget (straight percentage reduction across the board to match revenues w/ an allowance to pay the Federal debt to zero within 30 years.)
- eliminate the electoral colle ...[text shortened]... llow individuals to file patents/copyright, not corporations.
And I am JUST getting started!!! π
It's still better than an electoral system where the big power is in the hands of a few rich people with unsavoury morals.
@Kewpie saidI know in e.g. France they do two rounds of voting: the first vote chooses the top two contenders out of a broad field, and the second round is between the two top finishers.

We need anything but what we have. π
In the US, our problem is the primary system controlled by two privately owned groups: The Republicans and the Democrats. These two privately owned clubs have manipulated the system so that voters tax dollars are used to freeze out every other party from access to the political system.
This has been going on for a century or more.
In America we say, "Go big or stay at home," so when we do corruption, we do it BIIIIIIG! π
@spruce112358
If you want to copy another system, I'd be checking out the Scandinavians. The ordinary people there get very well treated by their governments.
@AverageJoe1 saidLet's run government like a trump business. Jack up taxes to maximize revenue, minimize services to basically nothing, don't pay your employees for services rendered, pocket as much revenue as possible and then declare bankrupty.
?? So Trump cannot get efficiency.? Who of him and CLinton has the most business acumen?
No one really needs chemotherapy now do they?
@AverageJoe1 saidMaybe trump can balance it but probably not based on past performance. Loooong way to go. All those cost savings they've already identified are not even offsetting the new spending plans they announced weeks ago.

Clinton actually did it. And he didn't have to cancel chemotherapy trials to get it done, in fact he doubled funding for research.
@spruce112358 saidYeah, it just has not worked for 250 years. Needs changing!! EVERYTHING needs to be changed. Like surgically, like, everything. Mainly, all the things that are not in keeping with our desire for big government, nanny state, etc.

We need for everyone to end up in the same place at the end of the day!! rats, I cannot find an emoji for that.....
@spruce112358 saidI would love a thread on 'privately owned clubs'. You write as if they are a bad thing.
These two privately owned clubs
Are they a bad thing?

@Kewpie saidYour post suggests that you are on the dole. I could be wrong. Maybe you have a friend there....who is on the dole? And loving it??

You are aware, I am sure, that the conservatives among us read your post above as the government controlling the masses? I could be wrong. I sniff a bit of government dependency. brrrrrrrrr
@AverageJoe1 saidDidn't see an answer to Marauders post, "there won't be a democrat POTUS who is a convicted felon" or words to that effect.
Sounds expensive, and quite undemocratic. You got govt involved in our lives man, the citizens JUST VOTED to get govt OUT of our lives, which is of course what Trump is doing. And all that you mention takes money,
Sonhouse certainly knows that Musk and Trump are today making our administration, our government, more democratic.
Could you pick maybe one (don't b ...[text shortened]... dicial reform. Let us start with that. Hopefully you will not apply socialism tenets to the issue.
