If anyone really does not know why then there is no way for me to explain it to them.
It is called "patriotism". A word that is forgotten by many of our young people here in the US as it must be around the world as well.
Originally posted by Taichungyou're probably confusing it with nationalism. an easy mistake to make though, as in practice there's hardly any difference.

BREATHES there the man with soul so dead,
Who never to himself hath said,
'This is my own, my native land!'
Whose heart hath ne'er within him burn'd
As home his footsteps he hath turn'd
From wandering on a foreign strand?
If such there breathe, go, mark him well;
For him no Minstrel raptures swell;
High though his titles, proud his name,
Boundless his wealth as wish can claim;
Despite those titles, power, and pelf,
The wretch, concentred all in self,
Living, shall forfeit fair renown,
And, doubly dying, shall go down
To the vile dust from whence he sprung,
Unwept, unhonour'd, and unsung.

what's "negative" freedom (or "positive" for that matter) ? freedom to do things that have negative connotation? *confused*
Whilst positive freedom is the possibility of acting in such a way as to take control of one's life and realize one's ambitions as far as possible. In terms of 'government interference' this could be the use of tax revenue to pay for education, national healthcare, redistribution of income to get people out of poverty traps, etc.
Of course the use of certain examples can always make one look better than the other.

No point in explaining it you either feel it or you don't. You obviously don't.

Originally posted by StarrmanBy golly Starrman you have convinced me. I can see no reason at all why you should be proud of your country and culture, or their accomplishments. Just nothing there to be proud of.

You win.
