I just watched some clips on you tube, with a normal, apolitycal song talking about freedom and there they were, dozen of USA people commenting "Thank you God that we don't have these problems", "God bless america, I sure appreciate freedom we have here" like it is only society in XXI. century without repressive system. (is it ?)

Excuse my ignorance (this post wasn't created with purpose to be provocative) but what kind of freedom do you have that we Europeans are lacking.. Also, I noticed, there are countries with less or more patriotic citizens but rarely you will see euphoric God bless Croatia or God bless Portugal on the internet when it's not called for. Every Hollywood action blockbuster has that message of US and freedom, from Independence day to disaster movies.

Are you really that free ? More then the rest of us ? What's so special with that freedom ? What's does your freedom mean ?

Move it to debate spanky, I know. But on general forum I see nothing but debates anyway.

America is the freedom to eat KFC, McDonalds, Burger King and a diet coke.

I don't know that Americans have "more freedom" than Europeans. As I understand it, some European countries have much heavier tax burdens borne by their citizens. But I also hear that many (maybe even a majority?) of those people PREFER to be taxed to the hilt when it comes to things like universal health care/coverage. If true, then no--I see no difference in our respective freedoms.

America enjoys more negative freedom, and Europe enjoys more positive freedom.
That's my general impression anyway.

what's "negative" freedom (or "positive" for that matter) ? freedom to do things that have negative connotation? *confused*

american taxes + insurance together costs more than finnish taxes which cover a lot more (things like housing and free academic education etc).

one freedom americans enjoy though is voluntary military service. finland has a mandatory one.

American freedom is something that can't be described. As far
as socially, we are mostly less free than much of Europe. Privately, our
freedom is much more abundant. We can and often do carry arms.
We have more privacy in our homes, and it is more protected,
although more and more they take slices out of this freedom.

The largest freedom, that simply cannot be felt elsewhere, is our very
large geographical freedom. We can travel 50 states, and countless
territories, with similar if not exactly the same "freedom"
and "protection" we are accustomed too. Furthermore we have one
of the largest spectrums of climate, from the West to the East and the
North and South, our climates differ enormously. I doubt any country
on earth has so many different climates. Even with states in the pacific
(Hawaii) and nearly the arctic (Alaska) and in the wetlands (Florida)
and in the Atlantic's chilled region (Maine) and in the great Basin
(Wyoming) and the continental divide (where the water seperates to
feed all the outerlying hemisphere, Montana) all the way to the
scorching heat of "central america" (Texas)

The United States is more unique than it truly is free

Relativistic limited focus thinking. Since when does any sane, self respecting person presume to compare the heritage of the United

States of America and Finland? Besides your very own breeding and parental training taught you comparisons are odious. Wake up.

What? The land of the free?
Whoever told you that is your enemy!
