It's not this instance alone that turns me off, it's the setup of having a very abrasive subgroup of a group, which is led by a moderator. I've been subjected to the nastiness repeatedly, and was not the first stonethrower. My clan has been attacked as well.
It reeks of favoritism (IMO), and is (IMO) not the way the place should be run.

I rejoined the PFC recently purely and simply because they are a lot of people there that I like. Co-ordinated attacks on a chess clan really isn't their style.
Basically, Phlab's a good guy doing a difficult job pretty well. I disagreed with his original call, but I could see the logic. It was, as I said before, a judgement call. I personally think he was right to change his mind. But really, either way, it shouldn't be such a big deal. It's like everyone's turning into STANG.
I quite like you, SJ, but you are taking this far too seriously. It's just a website. They are just clans. Pay your money, play your chess; enjoy the soap opera if you must.

Overall, the public forums, to me, are either boring because people have to tiptoe with each word, or mean spirited, which is why I've been staying away, for the most part.

Mean-spirited? Maybe. Tiptoe with each word? You should go to the debates forum. Some of the naked racism there makes my eyes water. I think the forums here are pretty liberally-moderated and irreverent. And I think Russ likes it that way.

Most people weren't shocked at what? I haven't tried shocking anyone, I've posted in the spirit of entertainment, period. Things got nasty when a small group of people started throwing accusations about me around, for no reason other than sick amusement.
And, my clan is far from little.

I'm not saying tiptoe as in, if I say "bitch" will I get banned (even though other members don't?) I'm saying tiptoe when dealing with a certain group, because one can expect a severe backlash, which is guaranteed to turn extremely nasty, regardless of who is right.
I can't remember ever seeing anything "extremely nasty" here, to be honest.
