No, he isn't splitting hairs. There is a real difference between whisky (Scotch process) and whiskey (Irish process). Both can result in a good tipple if done right, although my personal preference is usually for Scotch. Won't turn down a Paddy's, though.

My best? Variety. There are so many good whiskies, so many good wines, so many good ales and Belgian beers, that it's silly to limit yourself to a single one.
