hello!
im looking for an mp3 player, about 4gb with decent battery life, is there anything else i should be looking for to be sure of a good product, and any suggestions?
I listen to music mainly on trains and walking to places.. so not fussed about video or big screen or anything, and i assume that buying an ipod would mean buying the name and not just the product..
Iv been looking on the internet but i dont know what to buy (or rather put on xmas list) so any help guys?

I have a 4GB nano (one of the old ones without video), and I fit about 80 albums on it, with a little extra room for podcasts and the battery life seems good so far (meaning if I don't listen to it for a few days, it still has a charge, it doesn't trickle away overnight or anything, like some).
Get some nicer headphones though.

Nope. Its an Ipod. A Mac isn't a PC
It may play other file formats (video files etc) but essentially they are designed for music ... in ... erm ... MP3 format.

an iPod never was called an mp3 player. Its technology is better, it is smaller. And it is in color. It is all music format file (eg. you have a mp3 player but you have mp4 music. You cannot download it into the mp3 player and expect it to play it) It is a specific brand and has a touch sensitive wheel, It is smaller and anything by apple is not to be known as a normal group.
BELIEVE ME I was all mp3 players are better than iPod. Don't make the same mistake I did.

This is only because Apple have tried to make it appear much better than a normal MP3 player but it still plays MP3 files - If i look at the files on my iPod they are *.MP3 files - even if Apple dont want to call it an MP3 player, it plays MP3 files, which makes it ... you guessed it ... an MP3 player - there is no debate here. It just simple facts MP3s are MP3s regardless of the brand name given to the player.

Nope - sound cannot be in colour - My iPod shuffle has no screen and therefore no capability of playing videos in black & white, colour or glorious technicolour. It playes one audio file type: MP3s not wma, WAV, AIFF, AU or any other audio file type ... just MP3s - this makes it an MP3 player.

Nope MP4 is the next step up from MP3 as it allows for video to be played. My Shuffle does not allow this and will not handle MP4 files (newer iPods do but not my old thing). My iPod is an MP3 player only... nothing else.

You hit the nail on the head. "It is a specific brand" ... of MP3 player!!! Just like a Sony "walkman" is a specific brand of portable tape player. Just like a "Hoover" is a specific brand of vacuum cleaner. Being a specific brand does not suddenly mean that it is something completely different. (The touch sensitive wheel has nothing to do with it).

Size does not mean a thing. A "Mini" is still a car. Being smaller does not change what it is either.

This is what they want you to think. Just because they dont want to call it an MP3 player does not change what it is (i refer you to point 1). Just like a MAC or Linux machine is still a computer regardless of operating system.
