Bacon is different from place to place. In the UK and Ireland a certain cut of pork is used to make bacon, in the USA they use another bit. The UK and Ireland use a cut that is from the same part of the pig that pork chops come from - In the USA they use some useless part that is nothing but fat. In Canada you get that same useless bacon, but you also have "Canadian bacon" which is from the cut that most places make ham from. Thus the confusion. Canadian bacon is cut a bit thicker than American Bacon, and is rounder than European bacon. It has less fat than either. It was also an excellent anti-american film from before before being anti-american was cool. Anyway - there is Irish bacon, English bacon, American bacon, Candian bacon, Zimbabwean bacon, and very other kind of bacon. Only ignorants use it as a joke against another culture, and only an ignorant takes it as an insult. Especially since you must be an American in order to use a food product as a slur against an entire population. It's like saying that cabbage is stupid because Polish people eat cabbage. So do people all over the world. Or saying that McDonalds is crap because it's American - McDonalds is a multinational and has restaurants in loads of countries. If you're stupid, you ignore all but your own country's cuisine. Otherwise you revel in the exploration of regional dishes, flavours, and menus.
And Canadian bacon is good stuff.
