@moonbus saidIf the shootings are the tip of the iceberg maybe these stories represent the social trends beneath the surface that's what worries me.
Frankly, I am surprised that the police officers were not better informed about the local regulations. I would have expected more professionalism. Oh well, at least the topless women were not shot seven times in the back.
(N.B. see how grown up we are talking about the socio-political context rather than the exposed breasts. There is hope for us menfolk yet)
Ooops, probably spoiled the illusion by naming it.
@suzianne saidBreastfeeding is as right as rain. I have seen a woman breastfeeding in a public bus. No one paid it any mind here (Switzerland). Would that pass in the USA, I wonder.

Yeah, geeeeze, who'd a thunk it.

@moonbus saidSeriously, you can't breast feed in public in the U.S. Surely not??

tried it, however, I really don't think there is much chance they'd be arrested.
I've seen it on a bus in Mexico. It surprised me a bit but it was no problem at all
for the locals. And Mexico is highly Catholic.
@earl-of-trumps saidIt should be quite a natural thing to do.

@earl-of-trumps saidYou sometimes see women breast feeding by us, but to be honest you don't really notice. It just looks like they are holding their baby. Cunning clothes design! That isn't new though, I remember when my wife was feeding our children you couldn't really tell. Although in those days one of her friends was asked 'would you mind doing that in the toilets?' Amazing, where does that thinking fit with hygiene and the health of the next generation of our species. She should have asked the shop assistant if they fancied taking lunch in the toilet.

@torunn saidI understand, Torunn.
It should be quite a natural thing to do.
But the flip side is, it's natural for people to kiss, too. But one does not do that
on a bus or in public, in general.
It's all societal norms.
@earl-of-trumps saidWe have some strange societal rules - people can hug but not kiss, we can laugh but not cry and some more perhaps.

is totally ok. My wife always breast fed our girls when they were hungry, in the
shopping centre, in the library, at the museum. Nobody bats an eye. Because I'm
primary carer for my girls I socialise with lots of mums and their kids. They are all
fine getting their boobs out and feeding their little ones while continuing to chat
to me. In my twenties I would have been embarrassed but now ... it's just natural.

@petewxyz saidI used to drape a scarf around my neck to make it a bit more discreet, couldn’t bring myself to just undo my dress and have two big engorged, post-natal nipples in full view. I’m the same in women’s changing rooms, I’d find a quiet corner whereas some women would make a big show of drying off their hairy Mary, squatting and giving it a vigorous rub.

These days there’d be less of a need to towel dry there I suppose?
@drewnogal saidTo be honest that's not something you tend to see on buses or in the local shops. That's just on channel 4 dating shows! 😀
