They should be paid more. It'd be one of many elements involved in getting the NHS properly funded. Is it true they get about 17 pounds an hour? That's only a bit more than what I get paid and I live in a developing country economy that is about ten times cheaper than the one you live in.

I do.

You said: I haven’t said £29,381 is enough for a doctor (a person) to get by on. But the average wage in the UK is notably less than £29,381 and the vast majority seem to be “getting by” without striking for more pay.

If that's not saying you think they should be able to "get by" on their wages - like "the vast majority" do - then I don't know what you are saying.

Well, you are equating your "support" for Ukraine to your "support" for the NHS. And yet you are not sneering at Ukrainians page after page while that is how your "support" is coming across with the backbone of the NHS: doctors.

£39,664 for doctors starting out? That sounds more just. Voting Labour isn't going to achieve that. Negotiations haven't worked. Strike action appears to be the way to get at least part way to that figure.

What you are suggesting about how doctors should just "get by" is even MORE clear with me quoting the whole post.

It's a good thing that they did take the jobs and that they are now trying to make the profession and the sector better from the inside. What were they going to do for the health workers if they were outside the profession? Stand on their front doorsteps and bang on their pots and pans?

Just calling it as I see it.

Yes. You're suggesting either [1] they just walk away or [2] just shut up and "crack on". Is that your recipe for making the NHS better?

Because, as you yourself suggested, if they don't go to work, people die. So they shouldn't have to "get by" "on the average wage". Forgive me if I detect an element of "sneering" at doctors in the above comment. £39,664 sounds commensurate with their value to society. What professions start on a salary like that? MPs get £84,000+
