@moonbus saidSo not a classroom instructor, but an instructor in the business sector.
My job description, and the title on my business cards, is “senior technical instructor.” Been doing it 21 years. I teach people (mostly sys admins) how to configure Cisco kit (routers and switches). Not rocket science, but very nerdy.
You probably get paid a bit better than classroom teachers in the US. I think Germany pays teachers well.
@eladar saidEducators who've posted so far:
I was just wondering how many educators post to this site.
Any other teachers here?
Eladar, divegeester, FMF, wolfgang59, Suzianne [she's been a music tutor, I think, unless I am mistaken], Ponderable, and moonbus. There may be a few sports educators too.

@eladar saidYes, I teach hi-tech in the business sector. My wife is Dr. Med. co-head of dept. (neuro-radiology) at the cantonal hospital where we live in Switzerland. In my prime earning years I made more money in a week than she did in a month. Those days are long gone though. I am over 65 and winding down now.

I do not know what primary/ secondary school teacher salaries are here, but certainly nowhere near my best earnings.
@moonbus saidThe U.K. news shared the list of all the essential workers who must still go in despite lock down. From care workers, shop workers, teachers, hospital cleaners through to nurses the list pretty much covered all the lowest paid workers in U.K. society. I wonder how quickly that will be forgotten.

For too many days our front line workers took on coronavirus wearing paper aprons and flimsy facemasks. Personal protective gear was stock piled in warehouses since private industry could invest in anticipating what would be needed, but the hospitals could not afford to invest in getting significant quantities of equipment on site in advance, placing large numbers of low paid essential workers at risk for many days. I wonder how quickly that will be forgotten.
@moonbus saidNice life being so rich.

@eladar saidYou think you are an educator.
Still no educators, at least ones willing to admit what they teach.
Many bozos and dip shts on this site, but few educators.
How would you define that?
@fmf saidI train staff.

Do I qualify?
π
@ghost-of-a-duke saidI'd say yes and, if you have any leeway in terms of the syllabus, I'd ask them if they sometimes find it rather tricky to turn poems/lyrics into microfictions.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidI think it's another two nations divided by a common language thing. Do we have the term 'educator' in the U.K. I taught post grad doctors but I wasn't employed as a teacher. What do Americans mean by an Educator? is this term in use in other English speaking nations?

@petewxyz saidEducators are people who teach classes, kindergarten to 12th grade. We keep kids in schools until 18, I think other countries 16. Educators also teach classes at the college or University level.
