Well you tell me. I haven't been out of the Uk for a decade now. From the Unicef report said our childern are the most unhappy and the report that followed to see why mentioned the youths and their wondering days here, no where to go.
it's what is done to solve these issues that defines how the country is going to move forward.
england doesn't have the same gun crime that america does, yes it has some but no where near as bad.
i don't know about you but every time i'm on a bus in england i don't have fear of all my stuff going stolen when the bus is hijacked. this is not the case in ecuador.
i could go on all day about the pros and cons to living in other countries, there is no utopia on this earth.

Perhpas it takes some extreem cases for someone with the means to change things to listen. The teenagers here are so bored. They are in gangs just wondering aimlessly around. Shops play clasical music so that it's not 'cool' to hang about them- no one wants them about. Some drank bottles outside my house last summer, a group of about 10 talking into the early hours with vile language under our window.

Yeah sure there was a time when life expentancy was 30 but wasn't that only in certian parts of the country where the industral revolution poluted the air? These kids weren't following a natural urge in my opnion.
sort of my point though
The post that was quoted here has been removedi can only prove it my personal experience.
the buses in ecuador are very cheap compared to that in peru or colombia (the border countries) but unlike them in ecuador people can randomly get on and off wherever they want along the journey. i'm talking about long distance travel here that can last from anything from 4 to 24 hours.
i was with 3 german girls and we had decided to meet up again after they went to the coast and i went down the center to check out the Andean towns. i'd already been to the coast and it's nothing special. anyway they took the night bus (12 hours) from quito to the coast but on the way the bus was took over at gun point by people inside and outside of the bus. they and the rest of the people inside the bus lost everything, i'm talking about money, cloths, pretty much anything that was in either their bags inside the bus or it the language compartment below the bus. everything. this isn't uncommon in ecuador unlike in any other country i was in in s. america, every time you crossed over into a new district the whole bus and it's people got searched for guns.
but that wasn't everything about the buses in ecuador, while i was sleeping my backpack was slit open and my wallet stolen. while i was on a bus with a friend in daylight our bags where sitting in the compartment above us, right in front of this this guy took my friends bag down, opened it and started to look throw it. nothing of any value was inside it so we let him do it for a while before asking what he was doing, of course he came out with some crap that he thought it was his bag.
every single traveler i met in or that had been in ecuador said either they or someone they knew had something stolen on a bus in ecuador. some of the stories were shocking.
