I'm trying to get rid of 'this thing'.

I've clicked on 'customize' and tried shoving it in this box.

...but when I restart firefox it comes back, but not without this 'red thing'.

2. take a 8 pound sledge hammer and hit the comp 27 times
3. connect power source and initiate power up
4. if computer does not start .... you will never have a problem with firefox again.

How odd. I discovered the same icon had appeared today when I booted up.
Not sure where it came from (hyperwords extension update installed when I started today) and I could live without it too. Let me know if a simple solution exists.

Finally I blocked the entire page, but I still don't know what set that off, just that it happened maybe five times.
I've also found that my browser is occasionally taking me back to the firefox google homepage (my homepage) regardless of what url I type / choose. This is annoying and has stopped now I've disabled hyperwords. I'll be writing to them in the morning to tell them to sort it out.
