Well you could either read this thread again. There seems to be plenty of good advice in here. Or you could wait until your friend gets back from holiday. It seems you are missing something so just ask him for a hand when he gets back. Hope you get it sorted. 🙂
I did read all the advice and tried everything and nothing is working so far. The only thing I haven't tried is partition magic because i have no clue what that is.

I found some driver updates there but not for the video card.

I'll tell you the basic story.

I had 98 with drivers included from online. Then I had to get IE6. and everything got messed. So thinking that ME had the drivers I installed that and the drivers weren't there. So then I got Xp and drivers were on there but it's so slow for me because of my computer and I don't like that much so that's where I am at.

So it the updates had the drivers I needed, i wouldnt' be in this situation right now 🙁 They mostly gave me drivers which I didn't really need and the ones I wanted they didn't give me.

Or was that your other thread?
I read it on one of the links from that site you gave me. It seem interesting so i started reading and since nothing else worked, i though i would give that a try.

You should be able to get any drivers you need from the driverguide link.

You maybe won't need any others.

No, XP drivers will not work with ME.
BTW, I had a similar problen that you are having - tried to put Win98 on a drive that had ME on it... that's cause ME is one of the absolute WORSE Windows systems there is! ANd I wouldn't recommend anybody using it!

But anyways, Windows gave an error message because it won't let you downgrade a Windows Operating system - which is why you have to fdisk, partition and reformat everything... Maybe WinXP isn't such a bad option. Just add more memory to the computer.

Which driverguide link?

The one from the other thread?

I got the monitor and the network one but i'm not sure if i got teh best one. My computer wasn't the same as it was before with the 98 drivers. I might have got the wrong ones. My first time.

Anyways I got to fat32 now.

Next, delete the following files:

Boot.ini
Ntbootdd.sys
Ntdetect.com
NTLDR

Note that these files may appear without the three letters after the dot, so boot.ini may appear as simply "boot".

Also delete the following files if they exist:

Hiberfil.sys
Pagefile.sys

Next delete the following folders if they exist:

Windows
Program Files
Documents and Settings

Ok, now you've machine gunned Windows XP from your syste, Doesn't it feel great? Ok stand up stretch and say I am the terminator in your best Arnold voice! Ok, now time to reinstall an older version of Windows.

I can't find Ntbootdd.sys and I can't delete hiberfil or pagefil or any of the folders. What do i do now?

btw,
That applies if it's already FAT - which it wasn't - remember, it was Ntsp [NTFS]

it was fat32.. i wrote it earlier.

I had to reinstall xp and then delete partition and then make a new fat32 partiation.

So now i'm doing it all over again because I can't delete all those files and once I delete one it gets messed up when it restarts.

Can't I use my floppy start up for Me after this is done since it's a fat32 now? Before I coudln't because it was Ntfs I believe. But not it should be fat32.

FYI - FDISK can remove NTFS partitions, but they will appear under Non Dos partitions.. which is option 3 if I remember.
