ok.. if you don't want XP at all.. do this.

Boot with your ME diskette
Run FDISK .. When you enter, ensure you say Y to the Large Disk support so that you get FAT32.
Do Option 4 - display partition information.. ensure you know that you are seeing what you want to see.
Option3 - Delete Non Dos partition.
Confirm (you will need to enter the label and press enter).
Then. Do a create primary partition, using up all the necessary space, and set it as Active
Fdisk will exit and say you have to reboot.
Reboot with the boot disk
then., boot with the ME diskette again.
type format c:... then wait for it to complete
then, run setup.exe from the ME CD rom (the boot disk should create an E drive as a RAM drive).

I just did this last week.. wiped out win2k , removed all partitions and recreated, then did FAT32.

By the way.. I used ME for a week before I wiped it out and had to reinstall win98, then upgrade to win2k (you can't upgrade from WinME)

edit: hopefully i didn't forget anything.. hehe.. is from memory

From my experience: -
Remove primary partition. 'Cannot remove primary partition whilst there is an extended partition in place'
Remove extended partition. 'Cannot remove extended partition whilst there is a logical drive in place'
Remove logical partition. 'There are no logical drives to remove'
Remove non dos partition. 'There are no non dos partitions to remove'

I know option 4 is display information and option 5 is change disk .. so 3 must be non dos partitions option.. You will have non dos partitions for things that MSDOS fdisk cannot understand, NTFS, OS2, Linux, etc

We tried that fdisk thing yesterday and it didn't work.

I didn't know what Ntsf was but it sounded good so i picked it and that is where the problem was basically. Getting it from Ntsf to fat32...

Since you had Me before what do you think about loading webpages?

I have a slow computer compared to you guys but I find that internet pages work faster on ME then Xp. Same with everything else, programs, music etc...and it doesn't freeze up like Xp does every once in a while.

Do you have access to plain old win 98? ME sucks. It ruined my buddy's comp (Leboeuf) when windowns update did the wrong order of updates. I even have a copy of 98 I could mail to you but you probably want it as fast as possible. Do you have any computer geek friends? They might help. Also, used HD, say 20 GB ones are dime a dozen, you might think about chucking the old one and get another, start over. Your problems with XP was probably not enough RAM. Can you figure out how much RAM is in that system?

I've gone through a similar exercise with my other machine lately, but I'm in no position to give advice.
The problem I'm faced with now is to run Office '97 setup to restore registry items. BUT I cannot find the original OEM disk. Can someone help me here? It would be easier to delete and install Open Office but the wife and kids use it.

I had a 733 running xp a couple three years ago but I had 512 megs of ram. But you say you got it fixed. Does that mean you got (shuddeer) ME installed? Good luck with that ME thing. Just remember its no longer supported by big brother.

Yes Me, but the graphics don't look like before. My 350 Mhz had better graphics then this thing. Maybe it has a better card?

http://sympatico.msn.ca/

Go to that site and the picture on the right is very choppy and has ghost lines.

I know it's not the monitor because I was using it before. I don't get these driver things. With 98 it was fine but of course the tech guy found the drivers for me. I don't know much you know 🙁 Maybe there is a better graphics driver out there which I can use??

I think the reason for that failure is that you have no drivers installed on your computer for the graphics card, to veryfy this go to:

1-rigth click on the desktop, click properties, then on the settings tab.

2- you will see ways to control resolution and color quality, if color quality is the lowest, and you can't change it, then you dont have video drivers(graphics driver).

3- if you can change the color quality just set it to the one you think its best for you, remember the better the slower.

If you find out you dont have drivers for your graphics then post here and If some one doesn't do it first then I will tell you how to obtain them.

I have a graphics card. I installed it. Movies are fine. It just the animated adds, avatars etc...which keep flickering, and sometimes with pages loading.

Take MIoDudes animation for example. Top of this page.

I don't get why video work good but not little animation and ads from sites?

Do what superman says but if you need drivers, go to www.drivers.com and you should find maybe a better one for your video card. Do you know if if HAS a video card? It doesn't have to. A lot of motherboards have the video on the main board and don't use a physical card. If so, you can get one and install the drivers, usually on a CD and then in device manager disable the old video. If you have a PCI or AGC video card, maybe it just needs drivers but be sure to check the color settings and resolution first.
