Y'all are wacko'd. Mr. M is like Ian Curtis...he rides right along of the edge of sounding bad but has that je ne sais quoi that pulls it back just in time.
the counter example is every single studio musician or singer there has ever been. they all have perfect technique, and that's exactly why they sound like crap and will never amount to anything. the best they can ever hope, is doing commercials or back-up vocals, which is perfect for a voice that has absolutely no personality at all.

johnny cash another example of a great singer with a crappy technique. he had a great voice, but he really sung badly. and again, that's what made him so great.

and the funny thing is, these guys probably wouldn't be the giants they became if they had sung flawlessly.
