Two shots of tequila with a hot, hot lemonade. But before
drinking it, boil water and ut inside some eucalyptus leaves or
pills, then stuff your head close to the bowl where such concotion is
and cover your head with a towel, so you deep breathe the vapors.
After a few minutes, drink the hot lemonade tequila, put a LOT of
winter clothes and go to sleep under 4 blankets. Take the suffering,
sweat all night.
I guarantee you will wake up like new.
Don't forget to take a shower in the morning.

Originally posted by sonhouseThat works well for a headcold. The zinc molecules plug up the holes in your nasal membranes, effectively isolating the infection and starving it. I could be wrong, but I don't think that'll work for the flu, though.
When you get it, as soon as you see symptoms, start using those Zinc/vitamin C lozenges. They do a good job of reducing the number of days you are effected.
Whatever you do, stay away from all that homeopathic crap thay sell in the supermarket. If you buy some OTC remedy, make sure it actually contains the active ingredients. That said, Theraflu works well for me. It doesn't reduce the duration of the flu, but it'll make you feel a hell of a lot better.

My only suggestion would be to increase the amount of alcohol though. I think 3/4 of a pint would work better.
do you guys know ANYTHING scientific about how viral infections work?
Bottom line is: once you have flu, unless you're going to splash out $100s on retrovirals, you can't do anything but (1) aid your immune system to be at peak efficiency and (2) take drugs to aleviate the symptoms. Your acquired immune system has to get involved to tackle something like flu, and this'll take anything from 1-7 days to kick in from onset of symptoms depending on how well it's working and whether you've been exposed to a similar virus before (eg. if you'd contracted the H3N1 flu virus before you will have a faster response to the H3N7 virus than if you hadn't)
Alcohol may make you feel better short term(although in the case of true flu I doubt it would - it can with a cold) but beware side effects like retarding your immune system, meaning it'll take longer to get better.

actually "kill" what's bad, but it cleans your body from toxins and
leaves your respiratory system tip top.
Originally posted by SeitseEthanol actually kills bacteria. 70% ethanol in distilled water is often used as a disinfectant in certain places. It may help clearing bacterial infection in throat.. but be aware that alchohol in general causes dehydration, so drink a plenty of water as well!!

From my experience, a double dose of paracetamol helps when the body temperature increases very high. Stay in bed and sleep it off.
