He [capital H] in the middle of a sentence can only mean God, therefore it is a name. On the other hand "he" in the middle of a sentence means the person would have to have been mentioned first for it to make sense.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with religion.

Of course it has to do with religion. If an animist or a pagan read "He" in the middle of a sentence, they wouldn't agree that it "obviously" refers to the only entity who gets referred to as "He". You were thought that way due to the assumption that you would be mostly dealing with Christians, and so they'd know why your grammar was terrible.
