I love mine. I run around the house with it every day and admire how cool it looks when I pretend to shoot bad guys....and let's face it, you'll be doing it too. It's a guy thing.
I bet you make machine-gun noises too...

Ask them what would be a good first time gun for a beginner/someone unfamilar with handguns. They'll probably tell you the same thing I did, a 4" barrel revolver in .357, but it never hurts to get a variety of opinions, and it's a friendly site. Trolling/rud ...[text shortened]... ey go for about 350. A comparable Smith or Colt would be twice that. Taurus makes a good gun.
I have to agree with Sam, a 4" barrel .357 is great for personal protection. For home protection though, there is nothing better than a 12 gauge shotgun; I would suggest the "home safe" ammo though. if you live with others or share a wall with nieghbors, it will help keep them safe.

Anyone know a good gun shop in LA?
YES! Martin B. Retting's, in Culver City. Used to be THE place to go, I assume it' still in business. Biggest selection of new and used guns of every kind you'll find. Like a supermarket of guns and shooting supplies.

Run away, huh? I need to flee the neighborhood I grew up in?

Ummmm...no.

However, if I decide to buy a house closer to work, I may end up moving out...but probably from a hispanic gang infested area to a black gang infested area.
I thought you were hispanic? Perhaps you need to Mexican Up.

I remember a conversation I had with my aunt and some other relatives years ago. She was complaining about the Cubans "all over Florida," and "the hispanics all over Massachusetts." She had moved outside Miami a year before and was always cursing their language, appearance, etc. My aunt lives a very sheltered life, living in two homes during the year. One is in Colorado and one in Maine. She has lived (due to her husband's prosperous career working for American Airlines) in some of the most beautiful, exotic places all over the world, yet she never changed her views or learned greater compassion. I just don't get it. I reminded her of our hispanic heritage (on my grandfather's side, from Spain) and that at one time our ancestors (including my Spanish great-grandfather) likely suffered the same racism here in our country. As far as I know, all of them were legal immigrants. On our Italian side, though, many were not. My point was our entire family are descendants of Europeans and illegal immigrants, and fairly recently. HELLO? To hate Spanish-speaking, legal or illegal immigrants, was to hate her own ancestors. She never even considered this in her thinking. I had to get the dictionary and the map out to prove it to her. She was only slightly humbled. 😕

I never really understood the logic of hispanic as a racial group.

History, form and meaning of the words... there's ancient Hispania, modern Hispanic America, etc.

I had a conversation with a guy who asked me about my mother's maiden name of Gonzalo (he was from Puerto Rico) who said, "Oh, that's different." Depends on who you talk to and their views.

Would I be considered hispanic? Roman Hispania included all of the peninsula...

If you are serious about acquiring a pistol for persoonal protection get one that is semiauto loading. Why blast your ears with a revolver?
