I don't know how it is in other countries, but in finland the violence was far worse in the 50's, and has declined quite steadily since. still, media claims almost daily that "things are getting worse by the year", and they've been saying that, well, always.

the other popular line we have today, is that "kids get drunk younger and younger", which might be true or not. but what I've read about in social studies on winos, is that almost all of them have started at the age of 9 etc. -so it seems possible nothing has changed much there either. things just were not talked about.

we have two festivals in the town of seinäjoki every summer. the 'tango market' for the middle-aged, and 'province rock' for the youth. the difference is, the jails are packed during the festival of the middle-aged, there's also dozens of reported rapes. the youth festival, despites having a far worse reputation, usually has one or two violent incidents, often no reported rapes, and generally go without a glitch.

I believe most things concerning human state of mind don't change much. humans don't change. -there might be some cultural variation, but it's seems to be more random than a 'sign of the times'. like nordlys said, the decline of youth was a talking point even in classic greece. I doubt things were much different 50 000 years before that, we just don't have any documentation of it. human as species has not changed biologically much in the last 100 000 years, maybe even 200 000.

what is funny though, is that everything seems to point that things actually get better, people live longer and more healthy. and still, the 'decline of youth' never goes away as a topic. the youth just always gets the bad end of the stick, because guess who controls the media. yep, that's right. us jaded cynic middle-aged troublemakers.

Yes, they do show up on a search. Yes, I did try searching for serendipity, and yes, I found him.
When i go to player tables and type serendipity into the search box it tells me that no players exist.

it also say's under the search box that players with no moves in the last 100 days are also excluded.

You must be searching someplace different from me. Where are you searching?

I really don't know what you find "funny".
Elders get killed in the street everyday and robbed after they (the elders) have got their poor pensions at the bank.
And the thieves are only a bunch of drug dependents young (minors in most cases) guys, who depends on this money to buy more drug.

Unjustified violence, explicit sex, an apology of drugs consuimption, etx., is showed on tv everyday.
Of course, they have (tv producers) to sell, and make money,

There is a real world just out there, where violence, drugs and rapes exist. My critic isn't directed against the news programs, it is fine we can be informed of such crap, cos we can get better ways to take defense for ourselves and our families.

But really. the telly is selding us a lot of dispensable crap (to say the least).

As long as i can listen to Megadeth in the old folks home, the young ones can do as they please 😀
And graceful you are Huck, elegant and beautiful I have no doubt!
Although I am sure that Megadeth is not free market music?

Hear! Hear! You are anything but Crazy! I don't find it funny either.

If only people could just learn to treat each other with decency and respect.

Maybe I'm just a cock-eyed idealist, but that's why I keep screaming "love your neighbor AND yourself"

To all of you out there: join me and we CAN make a difference. Whose with me?

Unfortunately, some youth do not get the message to love your neighbor and yourself. This is, has been, and always will be a part of our society, at least as long as I can see.
The need for power is ingrained in humans, to feel power over others and to take energy from others, by means of violence or passive aggressive ways. This is how humans take energy from each other to fill themselves with energy. Not until we find other sources or means for energy for ourselves will this stop.

Being open, respecting them, and listening to them usually works better. I have found all the teenagers I have been teaching to be nice and polite.

if addicts could get proper treatment, enough rehab possibilities, but also controlled distribution of drugs by say, the health sector, they would not have to raise the money by crime. -there are countries where this happens, and the addicts can live just about normal lives without the usual human tragedy that accompanies drug usage. in such programs people have been able to work & study, even pay taxes. it would also hit the organized crime as their drug market would in large parts disappear.

scandalous media coverage, the fear machine, does not make things better. on the contrary, people start to fear just about everything, and there's nothing more dangerous than people who are afraid. news can be told objectively without creating panic, but that's not going to sell as well, so they go the exciting way. and people fear the most incredible things because of that, like axe-murderers, serial killers, all kinds of exciting things. but they are not afraid of what is going to kill them hundreds of thousands of times more probably, like obesity or traffic or smoking. the media reality is a virtual reality, or a simulacrum.

it's like the wise old wrinkly geezer said: "fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to suffering."

Or, you could use the Jedi mind trick. 😕

There is nothing to fear but fear itself.
