I haven't read every post in this thread, but here is our position.

We do reserve the right to request that any avatar be removed or replaced for any reason whatsoever if we believe it is in the best interests of the site, or indeed if simply to stem a inflow of feedback debating the appropriateness of the avatar 🙂

We did not request that this avatar be removed because it was racist or offensive, but that's not to say that it might or might not have been either or both these things.

As this enormous discussion shows, it would have been quite an effort to get to the bottom of it anyway.

My apologies if we took the wrong decision - maybe I'll get a chance to read through this thread at some point to find out 🙂
