There has been more than enough respected published research to this fact and more than enough testimony before parliamentary committes to show this. The two are statistically equal, yet women are portrayed as the usual victims.
Uh... surely this is some kind of joke. I'll give you a thousand dollars if you can show me one of these "respected" publications you speak of.

However, I don't have the academic research available at my finger tips and to back up my claims I would need to do something like a graduate thesis, which is far more work than I'm prepared to do.
Obviously.

We may seek out an aggressive husband who is strong enough to stand up to a dominant father, but we sure do not expect violence to be the result! Been there....done that.

This usually happens when women are young and don't know much about the way the world really works. I was one of the ones who entered into my first ever relationship with dreams of romance and stars in my eyes. I paid a heavy price for my ignorance. And it certainly does not excuse the men for abusing women, just because they can get away with it.

And what about those young women who are the victims of arranged marriages, for whatever reason? Yes, this still goes on, even in the Untied States, and it is still rampant in tribal societies.

Here's an interesting read, which discusses sampling bias in both studies who conclude for gender symmetry and gender asymmetry and proposes that there are types of gender symmetric domestic violence and types which are asymmetric.

sometimes you just don't know what a person will turn out to be like, i'm seeing it i my family right now. the girl seemed perfectly nice and normal at first but changed and started to lash out, the one time my uncle uses force to defend himself he gets landed in jail. all violence is wrong but what he did on her was no were near as bad at what he received.

courts will usually favor the woman in domestic violence case, right or wrong. some goes with custody of the kids after a divorce, how many males do you know that won that battle?

it should go to which ever parent is more suitable to raise their kid and that's obviously not happening in some cases.
