But imagination has nothing to do with money, the probable reason some kid with a good idea does not get his film produced is he cannot afford Clooneys wages. Clooney does not NEED to advertise Martini lets face it, he could leave that to the budding actors trying to get a break, but then he would not make a bigger fortune would he.

The music industry is still going strong after over a decade of users downloading albums. These industries make more than enough money as it is and if the end result is watch something then there is nothing wrong with just downloading it to see what it is like.
I am listening to Nick Drake - Pink Moon right now. If I buy the CD no money will go to him, he is dead it will all go to rich American shareholders.

I personally buy few Cd's so maybe I am damaging the industry. But the way I see it I would spend about a fixed amount on music, however I spend it. I spend it seeing bands live supporting them this way. So instead of buying a few albums a month I see a band live now and then, I don't know how they would rather get my money but this is how I would rather spend it.

Nope: hardly touched a drop this year friend. (anyway why do you have to be so confrontational? this could be discussed in a far more 'adult' way without the deliberate insults).

The film industry has been degrading in the way you descibe for decades (long before downloading was even an issue). how many rocky/jaws/friday the 13th (and countless other sequel) movies were there? you are trying to attribute this degradation to the 'pirates' but it is not as simple as that IMHO. You seriously beleive that no crap films were made before downoading became an issue?? I think not.

As for nothing new original or exciting, the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy was one of the highest grossing films in recent years, expanding the imagination of youngsters world wide and encouraging these youngsters to pick up a book for a change (sales of LOTR have sky rocketed in the past few years).

Other 'original' films in recent years that I can think of include "Saw" & "28 days later". Although neither were completley original plots ( an extreemly hard thing to find considering the number of films which have been made in the last 100 years or so) the way in which these were made were new and had different angle which many people enjoyed and neither were called 'pap' by critics.

Your argument has merit but unfortunately is not completely accurate.

Beastie Boys? What?? Where the hell did that come from??

A question.

I have recently download a few episodes of the BBC science documentary series Horizon. Mostly old ones a few from the 80's. Is this harming the BBC? Is it immoral for me to want to watch them? I am quite sure that repeats this old are not shown.

It also smacks of people like Bono telling us to give as much money as possible to his causes, his only problem is which house to sleep in tonight. If he sold everything he owns at 8am, including the shirt off his back so he had absolutly NOTHING left, he would be richer than me by 9am. Try it Bono.

Where I come from it's impossible to find the music I listen to without downloading it from the internet. I can walk into any music store and ask for Fugazi and I'll get a puzzled expression, they'll run a search on their computer and it'll turn up nothing, and these are MAJOR music franchises I'm talking about. I can have the music specially imported for me and spend half my salary on some overpriced cds, or I can download the hard-to-find stuff for nothing, occasionally I'll luckily stumble onto an old album that slipped through that I will spend my cash on, but for the most part the internet is like my slow musical I.V. drip.

I don't think piracy is killing the industry yet but what is IS doing is legitimizing theft which is what it is no matter how you look at it.

What is more is that it's creating a paranoid industry that is forcing all sorts of draconian measures into electronic devices, including PC's, that only penalize those who want to legimately use "content" they paid for on various devices and ultimately WILL destroy the industries they are trying to protect.

I agree a lot of the music I listen to is hard to find to buy even if I wanted it. Thinking about it the last two CDs that I have got for myself (not gifts) have both been from very small bands that are starting out. One local that I saw live, one not. I think if I invest money into the music industry I would rather it goes to these bands. When I go to local shops and look at the music they have for sale it isn't what I want to buy, although many people do.

You said "Because of the internet. It's ruining everything" but now you are changing tactics. Are you now trying to say that there have been no new and orignal films since the 80's?? 🙄 Your arguments contradict themselves.

Yes LOTR was originally a book but it was still an original film in the sense that there have been very few films of this nature in recent years, it was not a sequel and was not created simply due to current trends in the market.

there are no truly orignal stories left to film, only variations of an already explored plotline, this is the cause of Hollywoods pillaging of eastern cinema not piracy.

I am unsure where you get the idea that I am "mates with User 126452 and User 305751". I can trully say that I have never played or met either of them and wasn't even aware they existed until you put them in your post. and how are these two guys connected to the beastie boys anyway?

Totally agree about the theft part, if someone has made something to sell then it should theirs to make the money from it, but if they sell at too high a price then it is up to the public to decide not to buy it. I am sure films could be made cheaper and therefore more accessible to everyone if "stars" were paid less for starters. I would have assumed that if "stars" were really interested in their "art" then they would not demand such high wages?
