The world is overcrowded. The planet cannot sustain the population as it is now, and this is exacerbated by the fact that wealth is concentrated in a small percentage of the population which insists upon continued and unsustainable growth, which in turn creates the lion's share of environmental destruction. The poorest, in order to survive, create ever more environmental destruction in the desecration of forests and wetlands.
Now, we're using agriculture to put gas in cars, creating even more damage to the environment. while people starve. Water is being diverted to deserts in order to fill swimming pools. How silly is all that?
The major problem facing the planet is mankind's continued population growth. Other species manage to control their population. Somehow we can't and it will do us all in.

There are still vast extensions of desertic land that are free for people to populate them.
Perhaps we can [cough] send [/cough] all emos of the world there?
