I've heard that there are marketing people that sign up to sites and gather information about users. These people usually don't post anything but sit silently as they target the most popular users of the site. These collectors believe that the popular people on a site are the same people that are the trend setters in real life. They collect things like what music you like, what cities/vacations you take, foods, the city you live in, other people in your friend network etc. Sometimes they PM people and get email adresses etc if you happen to give them out which are then sold to other spammers and marketers.
I've heard that RHP has these trackers but i don't know if its true.
Has anyone felt like they were being tracked or had someone ask them for personal stuff via a PM or had chess related spam emails mysteriously appear?

Over the years I've seen it happen once here - a few people got a PM from a new user asking for an email response.
