What you call "grime" has been done. Rap is an American musical style. Nothing about drum or bass comes from the UK. No traditional UK music involves drum and bass. So what other "UK originated music" are you talking about?

You may want to check your references again. That is not a random phrase, nor is the fact that your hip-hop wannabees use the phrase. There was a "grimey" hip hop sound in the States about the same time that the "grunge" sound was happening for rock.
Drum and Bass - well, we don't even need to trace that. In the sixties and seventies the roots of drum and bass were formed due to the disco craze. In the eighties, in America, the drum and bass of disco was made the backbone of the modern hip hop sound. Break dancing came from this movement...
You may not like America (and neither do I) but you can't deny it's influence on music... (and yes I mean everything from jazz to rock-and-roll.)

The UK has spawned some of the worst music known to humankind, and the UK charts have no bearing on what's actually happening on the music scene, since record sales lean heavily toward the better produced and marketed American music industry. Losers who don't make it in the States move to the UK to make a career. A non-musical example of this is Ruby Wax, or a musical (term used loosely) example - Anastasia.
