One time when I was a young man, I was in a bar cooling off with a draft. I got into a disagreement over a fussball rule or something like that. The guy said "Let's take this outside." I thought he wanted to fight, we went outside, he wanted to share a Doobie with me. I was glad because he was known as a tough fighter.
@gambrel saidYa mean like a song, by the Doobie Brothers, he had on his cassette player?🤔

@chaney3 saidThank you for an interesting question.
Suppose that you're in a bar, and you get into a verbal dispute with someone, and he says "let's step outside ".
You agree, and both of you step outside, and you then proceed to whoop his ass.
Are all legal liabilities void since it was a mutual agreement to "step outside"?
What do you think?
I would imagine the person who used excessive force could still be charged with battery.
Rory Miller used to have a Kindle book aimed at martial artists specifically regarding legal consequences to consider in case one actually faces the prospect of a street fight, but I don't see it listed on Amazon at the moment. He does still have a couple of books available that are somewhat related to this topic.

Now your just being a wise ass.
Are you really that slow?

Maybe Stees is too wise to respond to such a post, but I'm not.
Everyone else can see he was just trying to defuse the situation with a little humorous deflection.
But maybe that's too difficult for a man who has fond memories of barfights to apprehend.
@very-rusty saidIf your statement had any relevance at all (it doesn't), that would depend on whether you were provably capable of being aware of all bar-room brawls and all court dockets everywhere on Earth.
I've never heard of a bar room brawl going to court that I can re-call.

So thank you for weighing in on this with nothing, really.
@contenchess saidThat is a good point, also who you know helps a lot and who you happen to be is a factor. 🙂
@chaney3
Depends on the country, state/province, city/town, how the cops are, damages done, etc etc...

@kevin-eleven saidK-11....I think you'd turtle if someone came at you! 🙂

@very-rusty saidCanada actually has a "consensual fight law" where people who agree to fight can fight without legal consequences but it is very vague because it says if any bodily harm is done then you can be charged.

Weird 🙄
I guess you can fight if you agree to fight but if you break his jaw your going to jail...? 🤷
@contenchess saidReally? I didn't know such a law even existed, or are you yanking my chains? 🙂

I knew a guy who got his jaw broke drank and ate out of straw for 3 or 4 months I believe it was.

@contenchess saidWell I'll be damned!
@Very-Rusty
Look it up.
Canada has a consensual fight law.
If two agree to fight...they can.
In Canada, you can consent to a fist fight. You cannot consent to bodily harm. In the eyes of Canadian law, a consensual fight is not an assault because both parties accept there will be some physical contact. Consent, however, does not extend to any intentional bodily harm.
Is it legal to street fight in Canada?
As James Linn has mentioned, there are no laws regarding street fighting in Canada. So long as it is not one party assaulting another party and no one dies, no law has been broken. In short, under Canadian law, if two people mutually agree to have a fist-fight, no laws have been broken.
What is considered a consensual fight?
A consensual fight is not an assault as the parties are consenting to the physical contact. Consent can be negated or vitiated where the force causes bodily harm and was intended to be caused. ... The necessary mens rea requires that the force be applied recklessly and the risk of bodily harm was objectively foreseeable.
Can you hit someone if they provoke you Canada?
In short, the answer is "yes" — but the punch has to be made in self-defense. "In general, you have to not be the aggressor and you have to reasonably believe that force is necessary to protect yourself from some imminent violence," says Schwartzbach.Feb 16, 2017
Can you go to jail for punching someone in the face?
You can be charged for slapping someone, or even go to jail if you punch someone depending on the circumstances. To qualify as assault however, the action must be deliberate.Oct 23, 2017
We do have some strange laws don't we? 😉
