Statement claiming London attacks
The BBC has located an Islamist website that has published a 200-word statement issued by an organisation saying it carried out the London bombings.
The organisation calls itself the Secret Organisation Group of al-Qaeda [literally the base] of Jihad Organisation in Europe.
The group not previously been heard of. The website has previously carried statements purporting to be from al-Qaeda. It is not possible to verify such claims published on the web.
This is the full text of the statement.

In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate, may peace be upon the cheerful one and undaunted fighter, Prophet Muhammad, God's peace be upon him.
Nation of Islam and Arab nation: Rejoice for it is time to take revenge against the British Zionist Crusader government in retaliation for the massacres Britain is committing in Iraq and Afghanistan. The heroic mujahideen have carried out a blessed raid in London. Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters.
We have repeatedly warned the British Government and people. We have fulfilled our promise and carried out our blessed military raid in Britain after our mujahideen exerted strenuous efforts over a long period of time to ensure the success of the raid.
We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all the Crusader governments that they will be punished in the same way if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. He who warns is excused.
God says: "You who believe: If ye will aid (the cause of) Allah, He will aid you, and plant your feet firmly."

it was never important ... people were confused:
some confused by their inate inability to comprehend this big picture ... other very able folk were confused by their egos clouding the bigger picture.
I hope everyone is as safe as possible.

It's never good to think about the big picture so soon after an incident like this one. For now, think short-run about taking care of victims and insuring local security.
After it cools down, the big picture can be seen more clearly, without the cloud of emotions that is now present.

Originally posted by flexmoreWhen terrorists commit this type of outrage the purpose is to induce terror in the population. I read one post earlier that said someone is unnerved at the prospect of moving to London. They targetted 3 underground trains and a bus - the idea is to make people scared to use public transport. But it's impossible not to if you live in London. This followed the same pattern as the Madrid bombings so there will probably not be any more bombs - the first set are enough to cause the terror. This won't stop me from being worried the next time I get on an underground train, but logically I think that there is no reason to be.
reports are saying that killing was not the goal - disruption of the public transport was the goal ...
if true then .. this will encourage private transport.
this is twisted ... the ramifications will be an improvement in the prospects of bmw, mercedes, gm, ford and all the big oil companies - it will be an advantage for the folks stripping the middle east of oil.
if it is the middle east - then: have they really thought this through?
It is likely that the people who did this were British subjects brought up here, but drawn to Islamic Fundamentalism by the way ordinary muslims are often treated in the west and the invasions of Afganistan and Iraq - and the other ways the Wests rulers trample over the Middle East.
The ramifications for us in Britain will be that this will be used as an excuse to force through compulsory identity cards and other "anti-terrorist" measures. In the last 10 years we've lost the right to silence, double jepoardy for some offences (you can now be tryed twice for the same crime if found inconveniently innocent the first time), and habeas corpus (ie due process). They've been turning the UK into a police state and the process will accelerate now.
I hope everyone is ok. I'm still waiting to hear from one or two people, but most people I know I've heard from. I think what we all want now is for the injured to make as good recoveries as is possible and for the death toll not to rise any more, but I'm afraid it will. The bombs went off in the rush hour on (I think) circle line trains.
It seems that Mr Blair has an elevated sense of his own ability in a disaster zone and a lack of responsibility to the G8 debate.
I am always left wondering what use someone like him can be at the site of a disaster - I mean, what can he do there that cannot be done from a distance. Support victims personally, yes, but is that going to limit the risk of further attacks? I understand that national security is his responsibility, but is he going to help much by being there?
Surely he would be more useful staying where he is. Making national security decisions as needed, coordinating the rest of the cabinet, and, importantly, pushing for a deal on Poverty, Aid, and a shift of responsibility of the world leaders away from money and towards genuine care for the needy.
Snipers around Canary Wharf according to friends working there. There's a rumour is that someone has been shot there as a potential suicide bomber - can't find anything more at present. Any corroboration, or just gossip?
DLR running from Mudchute - Lewisham. Anyone who knows whethere there are trains running from Victoria on teh Ashford / Canterbury line, please let me know.
This is all so horribly familiar. Lived in Jerusalem for three years.
A freind of ours, Muriel, won 8,000 dollars in a music competition
playing violin was in Dusengoff square in Tel Aviv when a suicide
bomber went off about 20 feet from her, the head of the bomber
hit her body and she was covered with broken glass but otherwise
unhurt. She stayed at our flat in Jerusalem for about a week to
make some kind of recovery, you can never really recover from
that kind of thing though. I was shot at in Jerusalem by a terrorist
with an Kalichnikov, I was one of the lucky ones just watching from
the mezzanine of the press building at Yossi's 7th place
restaurant. That guy killed about 4 people before he was stopped.
You never get those scenes out of your mind.
Originally posted by OsseAlmost certainly not true; after something like this people react in quite a strange way, like the tourist who was worrying about her holiday, because her brain didn't want to cope with what had happenned rather than selfish callousness on her part - I really think that that was shock. There'll be all sorts of nonsense flying around, we won't get an accurate picture of what went on till the weekend.

I'm very lucky to work from home, but I'm afraid that those who don't can expect a very hard time getting home this evening. If it's less than a couple of miles you're probably best walking. As far as I can tell overland trains are running, but you can forget about the underground until Monday probably they've got to get smashed trains out of the tunnels, try the london transport website.
This is copy and paste from the bbc website:
Euston station has reopened for mainline trains, but not the Tube, as has Victoria and Paddington stations.
Liverpool Street is expected to reopen shortly. King's Cross is still closed and will remain so for a while.
Eurostar's London to Paris service is still running, although passengers travelling from the continent are being advised not to travel to London.
The Heathrow Express has started running again but the Stansted Express is not running as far as Liverpool Street. The Gatwick Express is not running.
Mainline London to Scotland train company GNER said it did not expect its East Coast Main Line services to run as far as London at any time on Thursday.
No busses in zone 1, but they've suspended the congestion charge so if you can get a lift that is an option.
