Stupid, eh? How would you like to walk out of your house and die in an explosion? You have the audacity to complain about people being kept in their houses while others are being murdered? Open your eyes to the issue at hand! The police are doing what's best for everybody, so just shut up and deal with it.
i am not condemning the idea that people should stay in their homes closer to where the attacks happened but the likelyhood of terrorists bombing a suburb are extremly small. As well as this the rehersal was at 2pm, long after the attacks had subsided and it was therefore highly unlikely that any more were going to take place. to be honest i would walk out of my house and take that very, very small risk.

[i'm a londoner, have been out all day, just got back.]
i don't live near where the bombs exploded, but my heart goes to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy. it's just another reminder (as if we needed it) that there are some people out there who are so mentally unstable that they feel the need to kill innocent people in all parts of this wonderful planet. let us not divide on this sad day, but unite and solve what is probably the world's biggest problem at the moment....terrorism will fall-of that be sure, my friends.

Something like this puts all the minutiae of our lives into perspective. Almost everything can be let go of if there is a greater priority. I had planned to spend the day in a team meeting and catching up on my filing. Neither of my colleagues could get into work so I spent the day watching the news with my clients (drug addicts in recovery) as we all tried to come to terms with what was happening. Yesterday I was in Trafalgar Square celebrating the successful Olympics bid. Today I am feeling shock and horror. On both days I have been very proud to be a Londoner. This is a city that wants to reward sportsmanship, fair play and achievement. It is a city that will not give in to people who put bombs on our trains and buses. That is not the way to get things done. There are great, very great, grievances elsewhere in the world but London, Britain and free and fair-minded people everywhere want to use whatever else it takes to achieve them - political processes, adopting fair trade practices, depth in religion and spirituality of every kind, hec, even rock concerts - rather than this insidious use of terror.

If any nation can cope with this outrage then the British definitely can. People in my country (Northern Ireland) have been trying this type of crap for decades and they [the British] have always come through it.

Today, and today only, I would be proud to call myself British.

I am not so much mad at the actual suiciders as their thrice damned
leaders, the mullahs who tell the weak minded soldiers they are bound
for heaven with 40 virgins, etc. May the wrath of the entire world
decend on these blood thirsty evil predators. They are the real
terrorists.

I don't think you understand terrorism.

It's not the reward that drives the terrorist as much as the hatred.

But seriously... as bad as Fox? I think not.

At this minute Fox is probably reporting that it is an alien invasion!!

We get the Fox News US feed here in London. It's impressive that they are focusing full time on it, but it doesn't take away from my opinion that Fox (and Sky) aren't great channels to watch for news.

This is not necessarily suicide bombing as people seem to think. This is pasted from the BBC News main story:

Mr Paddick confirmed police were looking into whether the bus blast was the work of a suicide bomber.

But, he added: "It could as easily be an explosive device left on the bus as the work of a suicide bomber. We are not able to determine which it was yet."

{end of quote}

I have heard no confirmed reports that there were any suicide bombers involved. Also, it is not known who is responsible yet, as I think someone has already said here the language of the claim of responsibility is not specific enough to be attributed to Al-Qaeda, which usually includes details in its claims which are not easily available in the media. Also this 'group' has never been previously heard of.

Still, whatever the method and whoever the perpetrators, these attacks are disgusting and barbaric and I hope the people responsible are caught and are never able to harm people like this again.

On the subject of virgins: somebody needs to tell them that they have been gravely misinformed. It is not that they will be provided with virgins, rather that it is they who will be served up as virgins there. That should cool the the al-qaeda recruitment drive somewhat.

Well the provisional IRA at least had the decency to give warnings. There really is no point being alarmed; that's what both Al Quaida and our own government want out of this, each for their own reasons. If you start worrying about going about your daily life then they've won. Now that everyone I know is accounted for there's really no point in doing anything unusual apart from putting some flowers at one of the places that it happenned or whatever is appropriate - start worrying about these things and you may as well go the whole hog and wrap your kids in cotton wool.

The best person I saw on the TV so far was a doctor from one of the hospitals taking the most seriously injured and he basically said we are coping fine, the blood supplies came promply more or less as part of the standard everyday routine. When asked the inevitable stupid question: "How are your doctors and staff coping [ie emotionally] with this incident?" He replyed that they were a trauma unit and used to dealing with major incidents, and everyone was reacting as usual. The blood suppy was fine, and without using these words basically said business as usual. Bear in mind that the last big rail crash killed and injured more or less the same number of people.

You can't imagine how glad I am to hear everybody I know of on here who lives in London is accounted for. (murrow-does your brother live in London too? Is he ok?)
I'm still quite shocked, and my thoughts are also with you...
Love,
Angie
