It's the 'but' that fascinates me. But what?
War is war losers.
London was prepared, and had an extremely well thought out execution of the emergency plan, and COBRA is coming in for the first time.
News around here says 37 dead, 2 Australians AFAIK, with hundreds injured. All our channels switched back to regular programming with newsbreaks, the only channel that covered it constantly was ABC (government funded), which unfortunatly showed the same stuff from BBC over and over again.
This is too early and well thought out to coincide with the Olympic decision, it was only made 8 or 9 hours before the bombings. This was meant to disrupt the G8 meeting, I'd bet my life on it.
I HAVEN'T READ THE WHOLE THREAD, BUT DARE I SAY IT, IF IT'S NOT ALREADY BEEN PUT FORWARD. BE INTERESTING TO SEE THE REACTION. I HAVE VIRTUALLY ALWAYS LIVED IN BRITAIN, SO BEING A NATIVE, THIS IS NO SURPRISE TO ME, I AM SURPRISED IT HASN'T HAPPENED EARLIER - WHY ?
WHEN THOSE IDIOTS IN POWER DISCUSS SECURITY AND TERRORISM, I CAN'T HELP BUT LAUGH AT THIER PATHETIC RHETORIC. CONSIDER, HOW HAS THIS TRAGEDY OCCURED ?
WELL, QUITE SIMPLY, THE TERRORISTS WERE ALLOWED TO WALK STRAIGHT INTO THIS COUNTRY POSING AS ASYLUM SEEKERS, WHO THEN MERELY DISAPPEARED AMIDST THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
WONDER WHAT THOSE IDIOTS IN POWER THINK ABOUT THAT NOW !!?
Originally posted by kirksey957Some of my friends were at that, and had always planned to come back today - so I imagine that the protests were winding down anyway. One of them got stuck in Watford - take it from me - this is not a good place to be stuck at the best of times.
I'm curious about something. Have the G8 protestors continued to protest since the bombing?
I think that your underlying point - that we should stop complaining about what our governments are up to because of a terrorist outrage plays into the hands of people who have terrorised the Middle East for years. Ragnorak's point about those killed in the Middle East was reasonable, but badly expressed. Bush and Blair have a lot of blood on their hands, they are not trying to protect us from terrorists, their actions recruit for the terrorist leaders like Bin Laden. They want control over oil supplies - because money makes the world go round and oil greases the axle.
Londoners are no more and no less resilient than the people of New York or Fallujah or Baghdad or any of the cities where ordinary people have been bombed, traumatised, maimed or killed for the power games our rulers and the terrorist bosses play.
On a different point I was trying to think of a fitting tribute for the victims, what I came up with was straightforward, but requires a big ongoing commitment from everyone. What the living victims needed today was blood, as it happenned the Blood Transfusion Service coped without difficulty, but the next time there is a disaster, either accidental or deliberate, it would be good to know that my blood was there to help those who need it. Simply, everyone who can should donate blood regularly - that way it's there when it's needed. As soon as I can I will start.
Originally posted by VargThat is a good point. Perhaps I should refrain from making such presumptious comments until this is ascertained. I heard on the radio today that more than one terrorist group claimed responsibility. This is to be expected. Afterall, that's what these groups want, publicity.
So which country attacked us?
Originally posted by ROGER THE DODGERDon't be a fool, the terrorists will have been here legally, and were probably British Nationals doing anything else illegally other than the attack would have been too risky - immigration controls exist to provide cheap labour like the cockle pickers who died when the tide came in.

Originally posted by RagnorakI havent read this whole thread (got this from the rec posts), but we dont need empathy for these savage b*****d's, this isnt a jihad or fighting for your rights, this is pure murder, with no regard for age, race, creed, sex or religion of their victims. The culprits should be rounded up and executed.
I still have friends unaccounted for and in no way am I trying to apologise for the terrorists, but England must have expected this to come sooner or later. By joining a fight against terror, the main strategy of which was bombing innocent civilians, the English government must have known that eventually, there would be retalliation on home soil.
The ho ...[text shortened]... be by underground terrorist groups OR governments. Now is the time for empathy, not anger.

Originally posted by ROGER THE DODGERYes that is a security problem, but you can't do this kind of terrorism without explosives. So somehow they had to bring explosives into the country I am guessing. Then again I guess if they can bring drugs in they can smuggle explosives in too.

Edit: I was working in Manchester today as I do every day. I actually felt afraid and threatened on my way in and out of the city centre. In the past when we have had the threat of the IRA, there was always the respite that we new there would be a warning and hopefully any casualties avoided. but this kind of thing makes you think. It is a different kind of terrorism than what has happened in the past. No warnings, no relenting. The first anyone knows of it is is when the bombs are detonated.
I think this will be the last of it for a while again as the security forces step up a gear again. I hope.
