The thing is I don't know squat about each area. Which zones do you think are relatively less safe?
Its very hard to identify "unsafe zones". There are a few places which are mostly upperclass like Mayfair and Knightsbridge, but even a place like the King's Road in Chelsea which is distinctly upperclass has the World's End estate just off it.
I lived in Lewisham which is distinctly dodgy, but I never had any bother there. Even places with bad reps like Peckham are getting a lot of money pumped into them.
You'll really have to go to London to have a look at the different areas. If you have a budget that you're willing to pay then you can narrow down your search to those areas that fit your criteria.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind living in relatively dodgy places, it's just that London has quite a bad reputation with respect to crime. I don't need (nor want) to be in "upper class" places, I just don't want to get mugged three times a week.

The post that was quoted here has been removedI'm going by both the Met's crime figures and my own experience of living in those places, behind the Works in Kingston on a Friday night for example. Whilst I agree there are clearly localalised problems in each area I don't think we've got time or inclination enough to go through each bit by bit. I'm giving a general view of London so he can start looking in the right sort of area.
