Hey, we're enlightened and we're tired of the pole-pushers calling the shots.
Not until 1529 really. After the Diet of Speyer, "Protestant" began to be used as a term for anyone who seperated from the Roman Catholic Church. After the Diet of Speyer the first time the the word was used was for the Germanic Princes who opposed the Diet's decision; enforcing the Edict of Worms from 1521.

History has already been changed by replacing the reigning pope with Pope Ivanhoe the Paranoid. That's a good reason to start reformation early.

Who was the reigning pope though?

I don't know, but it would probably be easy enough to find out if I knew in which year you are (I know it has been mentioned, but I am not going to search for that information).

I think someone said it was 1397 which would have made it Pope Boniface IX.

Great name 😛

I don't think it's that late. If I remember correctly, the game started in 1320, and assuming one year per turn, it's now 1326 going into 1327. I think you got the 97 from the Napoleonic game.

That would be John XXII then. And right now he would have a big quarrel with Louis of Bavaria, if he hadn't been replaced with Ivanhoe.

Well, the quarrel is historically accurate anyway.

Quite so. I wonder if there will be an antipope, too. And if Pope Ivanhoe will give Wulf of Bavaria the kiss of peace in 1330.

This is hardly a reasonable objection, since most players have adopted character name changes.

Pope Ivanhoe has already given the Duke of Bavaria a "Sicilian kiss" and looks forward to seeing the Duke's head on an Italian halberd by 1330.

Now that would definitely be a change of history.

Ok, guys, I am back.

I had sort of a personal crisis this last week that demaded my attention in a rather brutal way. I am an insulin-dependent diabetic and was admitted to the hospital with DKA (or diabetic ketoacidosis). It's when your blood gets filled up with ketones (a by-product of inefficient fat metabolism caused by high blood sugar levels ). Then to make things worse, I delayed going to the hospital, thinking it was just dehydration. By the time I was admitted, I also had labored breathing with tachycardia (my pulse was 160-ish ).

This being Sunday, I was discharged just this afternoon and will be taking a couple days off work this next workweek to get back to 100%. I feel tons better than when I went in (obviously, hehe). One benefit of this hospital trip is that now I'm on a totally different type of insulin that may help keep my sugars more normal.

So, this is why I didn't send in my orders. I do plan to stay in the game, so no worries there.

Ok, sorry to interrupt. Please continue your normally scheduled ranting.

🙂
