I for one would like to see that, if not use it. 😀
Besides, at another forum, we dicussed how the Tron pieces would work. We already know which is going to be what over there too. So if there is going to be a Tron themed board, I'll post the pieces list for both sides.

As a final test to the new code, I am making the beta site available to all.

I'm not big on themes and styles really, but I guess those who love flashy thingies have a lot to choose from.
One thing strikes me as odd though, and that is the way the position count is done in the analyze board ( position x of y ), which seems to be going on counting upward without ever reverting back to an original or previous position and its pertaining count.

Russ, the strange drawing of the title bar with (partly) transparant scolldown menus I had on Mac OS 10.3.8 and Safari 1.3.something, do not occur on Mac OS 10.4.4 and Safari 2.0.3 on which I am playing right this minute. Just so you know (and might find it usefull information).
I sorta have an issue, though nothing major. In the new Analyze board, whenever I move a piece (edit: or even click a piece, it seems) the board like blinks and seems like it has to take an extra second to load my move. Is that the way it's going to be from now on? It also happens when you try to go through the entire game history move by move, which lots of players like to do just to get their feel back for a specific game. The little blinking effect slows that down quite a bit.

What os/browser/version are you using please?
Also, how fast is your PC (is it older than 4 years old?)
I hoped not to see a post like that - it doesn't make a lot of sense that the analysis board is so slow and the main board isn't.
Although it may seem like madness to suggest this right now, does the problem clear up when you clear your browser cache?

Josef Hartwig designed a chess games (geometrical pieces) for the german artschool Bauhaus. I send a link to a webpage with a picture of it. Maybe somebody could re-create a pieces set in this art...
www.christian.zweigler.com , then select Interieur.
I find great all the new colors but it could be more fun if everybody had a painter's palette with 256 colors and if we can decide ourself our colors for the chessboard and eventually for the pieces too.
Good job!

I can only really think of two things :
1) opacity style being used when the green tiles are rendered.
2) Some security software is killing the javascript performance.
Do you have Opera installed? Could you try it? If it performs equally badly then that that would rule out (1) - it doesn’t support opacity.
Apart from that, I have no idea at the moment what could be causing your problems. I have thrashed my PC to kill its performance, and I am still not seeing any noticeable slow down, so I am not convinced the new board code is that sensitive to machine speed.

I mean, it's not like my access to the site is denied. The last site I played on with my last computer(a very old and very bad one), I couldn't change the board size. I just had to accept that if I'm going to be a cheapskate and use an old pc there are things like this I have to put up with, and if I want new/fast/shiney I need to pay for something more state of the art.

It just seems like you're trying to do handsprings for us when it's obvious that the problem is on our end not yours.
Originally posted by Moldy CrowI greatly appreciate your response, but by pushing for modern browsers, I am asking a lot already. And even though I am providing a legacy interface, it comes with reduced features from what is available right now.

I would feel very uncomfortable slapping a 'minimum specs' on a web page! 🙂 But, seeing as I can find no obvious way to improve performance (or even duplicate the problem), then I intend to launch the current beta 'as is'.
There will be a short outage tomorrow AM during the update.
