You realise it's £15 a year?

Originally posted by dottewellI really don't think £15 a year is too much a price to pay for a site such as this. So far it has given hours of endless fun, more than other sites I could name that charge £15 a month and you only 'use' them for maybe 5 mins or 10 (depending how fast you are) a day.😛
That's fair enough - in fact it's very sensible.

Dottewell, are you serious with this thread? Why do you ask? Are you hoping to gain more subscribers?
I ask because I let my subscription lapse, semi-left RHP, realised it was actually by far the best site of it's kind, and coughed up for a second time when I started posting again.
Basically I'd feel guilty NOT paying to support the site, given what I'm getting in return. I just wondered how others felt.
Alright, I wasn't sure if you were serious. I don't think that it would help in terms of recruiting new subscribers, but here is how I went from being a non-subscriber to a subscriber (in essence, I have come to agree with dottewell; I don't see excuses for non-subscribers with jobs who play at their game limits):
I first came to this site years ago, March 2005. My brother asked me to play a game of chess and I did.
For a very long time (1 1/2 years), I was a non-subscriber. I didn't play very often and, therefore, didn't mind only playing in 5 or 6 games at a time.
Once I found the 'Open Invites", I started playing more and more people from the site and developed a greater appreciation for the site. But, I saw no reason to join. The advertisements were annoying, but I could deal with them.
It wasn't until, on a whim, I decided to subscribe. I wanted to try the clan games out.
Anyway, since subscribing, I have come to enjoy this site more. I would recommend that the non-subscribers subscribe if they can.
Originally posted by dottewellI don't suffer from guilt. I suffer from poverty and inability to play chess to a standard where I would want to play more than 6 games at a time. As this site is promoted as a place to play chess free of charge, that's what I'm doing. I do not want the extras of playing 500 games at one time, nor do I feel the need to put a picture next to my name, I do not want to play in tournaments or join a clan.
I am serious.

I'm here for a few games of chess and a banter in the forums. What's with all the threads about subs and non-subs, can't you just read previous ones for answers instead of starting a whole new one for the same question? 🙂

It wouldn't be worth any player paying if they never want to play beyond 6 games, play in tournaments, clans or sieges and don't mind seeing the ads.
What subscribers are paying for are these extra services.
What would be unreasonable though, will be non-subscribers moaning about what limitations they do get.
