and so I have decided to get a head start and quit smoking. I am now popping outside to have my last cigarette, as advised by Alan Carr, and am fully stocked on nicotine gum (which has helped me before, but is against the advice of Alan Carr).
I would like to wish all other english smokers who are thinking of quitting because of the ban good luck, and keep everyone informed of my progress here. Even if you don't want to hear it (in that case just ignore the thread).
I would also like to take this opportunity to have a minute's silence to commemorate the english pub as we know it. Things will never be the same again. :'(
Anyway, pip pip...

similar ban is in effect in south africa for some time now. and sure, lots of people tried to quit since they can't smoke at their work desks and etc. restaurants and pubs were revamped to accommodate smoker's corner, which we were still allowed (for how long still - i don't know) ... but after the whole hipe was over, everything seemed to get back to normal - most of the smokers i know, who tried to quit, are still happily puffing away ... hmmm, including me. so, i guess, a similar thing would happen your side of the ocean - after awhile things will start settling down and you will find ways and means of having that so much desired 'spliff' ... π
unless, of course, this is just another reason, among many already, for you to quit smoking ... then, good luck! my reason is gone now, so i'll be lighting that smoke for y'all in three days. π

If it will work or not, I don't know
i see this can turn into quite a bun fight ... π
i just don't see too many smokers (and non-smokers) complaining about other junkies, soaking their livers in booze. may be we should ban pubs altogether ... and hell, while we're at it, driving cars is dangerous too, as much for you as other people on the roads. oh, and i forgot, sexually transmitted diseases are a danger to our fine society! so, how about we ban all of these 'bad' things and hang cow bells on our necks, procreating in a carefully controlled environment - and dare you have fun during this process! but, i'm sure i've read something like that in another thread.
