Gatecrasher, I reckon you'd come in under Instrumentals, your computer being your instrument.

But that catagory appears to be for people who are playing a solo instrument or singing in an original work.
...or is that just me?

Would MD retain better quality when converted to mp3? If so I'm happy to help as I can convert MD to mp3.
Plus, MD is digital and, even though uses higher compression compared to more modern formats such as apple's lossless and mp3, it is far more superior to magnetic audio tape...
.... unless you're talking about DAT?
Originally posted by rhbIt would certainly retain better quality than MD transferred to tape converted to mp3 (I can't record directly on tape, so that's what I would have to do). So it would be great if you could help me out, in case I actually manage to record something usable. It will take a while because I still sit at home with an inflamed foot which doesn't seem to get better at all, so I still can't get my minidisk player, and I can't even play much because I have to put my foot up most of the time.

P.S.: What about your pictures for the photo comp?

doldrums. I have one of them but never used it.
Went to HD recording years ago. Don't know if you would even
hear the differance between a good tape and an MD converted to
MP3 anyway. I have made really nice recordings from Cassettes
to HD and then to MP3. Hard to tell the differance between that
and the direct digital to HD stuff. There was a test of some
audiophiles listening to very high quality recordings, tape and
vinyl, one being George Cromarty, Wind in the Heather,
acoustic guitar of such high recording quality for vinyl, it is used
as an A-B comparison like what is the original and what is the
MP3. The gist of it turned out to be its very difficult to tell the
differance between the highest MP3 setting and several notches
lower. And these were experts on such matters. I suspect us
duffers would not be able to tell the differance even at lower
settings also.
Originally posted by rhbTo clarify, whilst minidisc would be better transfered to MP3 than tape, there really isn't any point. I'm going to compress the files enough that the difference will be reduced and anyway, the whole point of this competition was not to make sound quality an isuse, but instead music quality.

I would go with what is easiest to produce.
