Running away is usually a "successful" tactic to avoid a battle. Considering the overwhelming advantage in production you and the Uesugi have, your extreme aversion to battle is hard to understand.
Well you see, No1, when l attack No1, it will be once - there will be no counter.

Despite the loud talk of the Monk's proclamation, the "Yellow Fleet" retired from an approximately equal Kyushu Alliance naval force. And you didn't even bother to build any ships in the harbor you extorted from the Amako!
But did l build any ships elsewhere? If yes, then where?

The Kyushu Alliance has spies everywhere; we will not be the ones who are suprised as your vassal-ally-lackey the Amako was. Why did you steal Kotto from the Amako if you didn't intend to build any ships there?

Now that is a real question. Fleets are only a part of a successful attack. There are many reasons, they shall be revealed soon enough.
btw l am yet to "steal" anything, l have traded for or fought for all of my gains.

You scheme like a second-rate shopkeeper rather than fight like a warrior. Your allies and vassals would do well to consider that they fight for someone so dishonorable.

Well, I'm nonplussed--I expected a hard fight at Uwa, but it was a walkover--the Otomo forces vanished into thin air, it seems...

A small Ito flotilla was sunk in the Harima Sea. Again, I had prepared for a much mightier slaughter.

The Amako gained nothing from you for ceding you their territory. Your "protection" doesn't seem worth much.

That small flotilla never received their damn orders to move!

It would have been folly to fight a battle outnumbered about 2:1 in both CS and HPs. The small force of archers left behind fought well and took out 4 heavy infantry units of the Hokosawa.

I thought you might have set a trap, with a ton of reinforcements sitting offshore. What about a sea fight? The odds are in your favour.

(If ronin spearmen are heavy infantry, what does that make Horo guards?)

Outraged by the cowardice of their admiral, they mutinied to stay and fight like men.

Well, I guess we'll get to take a closer look at Kyushu pretty soon.

l know you are not stupid enough to believe that.

There is more than protection for Kotto.

Well most of the ships are Otomo Sourin's, so you'll have to arrange it with him.

I'd consider 2.8 HP's "heavy" infantry, though most of the infantry in this game has more hit points than in MD for example. It's a quibble anyway; we lost a bit more in Gold value but I didn't want to give up the position without a fight.
