My rule is, if the guy in front of me is not moving faster than the guy to the right of me, I either tailgate the guy in front as obnoxiously as I can or I pass on the left. It generally works pretty well.

Most of them realize they're being jerks and pull over to a more appropriate lane.

It is true, you can be a real anti social punk on the road and block off the fast lane, but thankfully it's not that common a problem. Give people a little prodding and usually they move over or speed up.
By the way, if I'm not in the far left lane and I'm not getting constantly passed on the right, I do the same. However if I am in the far left lane or getting passed continually on the right and someone's tailgating I do the respectful thing and move over to a more appropriate lane for slow driving; or I speed up.
Some years ago, I was driving on Interstate 90 in NY, USA, when I noticed a car tailgating me. Since I was going about 75mph, I considered this to be quite unreasonable. I subsequently layed into the brakes and sped up again to 80mph. The car in question sped back up and came along side me. To my dismay, it was an elderly woman who upon making eye contact with me, stuck her middle finger up at me and took off.

If I'm on some little one lane residential street and I get stuck behind someone really slow I either pass them by driving on the wrong side of the street or find an alternate route. It's hard to find a one lane street of any significant length that can't be easily bypassed if needed in L.A., the Bay Area and the paths between, and I don't really drive anywhere else.
wonderful that you constantly have 2 lanes to choose from huh?
Originally posted by PullhardActually, the speed limit in NY is 65 MPH. And you will note that the old woman behind me was keeping up. Meaning not only was she speeding(like I was), but, she was tailgating me at the same time. Get your facts straight before asking dumb questions.
So, if someone is going the legal speed limit, is it also unreasonable for someone to tailgate?

You consider tailgating unreasonable when you are going 10 mph over the speed limit. The fact you felt it necessary to state this suggests you feel it is reasonable to tailgate at certain other speeds. Would it have been reasonable for your nana to tailgate you if you had been travelling "only" at 65 mph?
My point is that it is idiotic to tailgate anywhere near those speeds, 65mph, 75mph, 105mph, it doesn't matter.
