Now in 198 of those gam ...[text shortened]... e decided to unleash it to the world through a correspondence chess site... Makes you wonder. 😏
Why not you, people, wait at least for the 1st his game to be finished?
Games will show.

Seirawan played Petroff, although not very often. Be7 is somewhat unusual line indeed, but going out of the book makes a lot of sense in this case.

Like I said, we'll have to wait and see. It's a sad fact that there is no shortage of impostors on the internet-- just ask Nigel Short! So it really is natural and understandable to be skeptical of anyone claiming to be someone famous, and I'm sure a smart guy like Seirawan understands this.

actually you are quite wrong on my type of defense, it is the queen fianchetto defense, slightly different than the petroff. this will be my only rated game here I guess I made the mistake of having it rated. All games from this point on will be unrated so there can be no question. I also incourage you to take a closer look at the 1989 western hemisphere championship, I use petroff quite a few times and do more than draw.

It is the little Syrian guy. Yaz is here from Seattle Washington and I am sure Bennett can attest to this also. I am next in line to play Yaz a nice friendly game as soon as he finishes with Bennett (who I hope softens Yaz for me). Why is it that a few of you automatically assume that this can't be Yaz? There is no reason to doubt him so if some of you prefer to remain skeptical, do it in silence, wait to see his completed games, then maybe you will have something to say. Please...just welcome Yaz to RHP.

I'm sorry... I might not have the Chess skills you have Yasser. but I do know that what you have played is the Petroff defense. I even asked a GM, just to make sure 😏 . Just a minor slip up probably an accident. O by the way do you have an email account yasser@insidechess.com I just was wondering a friend had told me.

Thanks Impala

Just out of curiosity what GM told you this. I know well over 200 of them personally so please tell.fianchetta means to build a house as you can see i have done very similar to petroff main line, 1. e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3. Nxe5 d6! 4.Nxe4
5 Qe2 qe7 6. d3 Nf6 7.Bg5 Qxe2+ 8. Bxe2 Be7
If this is what the petroff mainline looks like similar but slightly different. It generally is a bit to passive for my liking but serves its purposes

Arsen Yegiazarian GM seems to disagree that what you have played in your current game as a Queen Fianchetto Defense. He said it is out of book theory of petroff. . . As for the second question?

Guys, if it is Seirawan then we're thrilled to have him. If it isn't Seirawan then all he's doing is giving us a little entertainment.

Unless the bloke begins asking for money, why not be sceptical in silence? The harm you're doing by submitting him to 20 questions if it is Seirawan far outweighs the harm you're preventing if it isn't; in my humble opinion, anyway.

Why is it that every strong, new player is given such an incredible hard time in the forums? It is normal to have doubts,I have 'em too.But for crying out loud, could you wait 'till he has some games finished? Is the Dantes fiasco already forgotten?
Which openings he plays doesn't prove much,if you would compare my openinglines here vs OTB you wouldn't think it's the same player either. And didn't Yasser Seirawan say in a book or dvd that it is a good idea to change your repertoire every 6 months?
I don't know if he's really Seirawan, but let the man prove himself through his games and show some respect, please.Thank you.

Seirawan, welcome to the site.Don't let these monkeys scare you away 🙂

Sir Lot.

This guy is definitely an imposter. He doesn't know the name of opening he's playing (clearly a Petroff). He doesn't know what a fianchetto is... This is elementary stuff, the level of knowledge I would expect from a beginner. I doubt he's read a chess book in his life, and he certainly couldn't have written any.

I find it offensive that someone can impersonate a famous and respected grandmaster, breaking the site's terms of service, and then insult the intelligence of everyone who knows anything about chess.

I hope Russ or Chris will take swift action to remove this individual, as the longer he stays the more harm he will do to the site's reputation.

I'm 100% sure. He doesn't know anything about chess. Read his comments about his game with Bbarr, and check out his thread in the 'Only Chess' forum. The level of his chess ignorance is astonishing!

what comments has he made that make you so sure that he is in fact an imposter?
except for the fianchetto thing that is.
