I'm sure you're not alone. Most others, though, will be quick to blame the messenger. We'll see.

That is a blast from the past.

And that little Bowman game WAS 'surprisingly entertaining'.

Apparently it doesn't work now, too bad.

Thank you, Ponderable. How did the "recommendations" system work?

About Bowmann: Record-holder at RHP/TFC (etc.) for the greatest number
of "recommendations" — a whopping 1,535! — held by a Non-Subscriber.

Apparently, there was some unspoken affection toward Bowmann,
despite his notoriety, by those who posted in those threads.

If you would recomment a post as a subscriber you had a button to do so. When the big rec-collectors came, the system was limited.

Bowman and his friends used it as a means to slap each other on the back. You will find at least one thread on that behaviour if you dig deep.

One Button Click = One Rec
(or could the button be clicked multiple times by the same poster)?
I'm asking because of Bowmann's astronomical total?

In those days, it was common to get 'recs' for merely being abrasive.

He was expert at that.

No, it was maxxed at one rec per person per post. However, the recs stayed with the person instead of the post like the thumbs do, and you could view a running total under anyone's name.

This is why many feel the current system is better, since it's the actual post getting the rec and not the person.

Makes sense, Suzi. Still, On / Off or Up / Down seem so Two-valued and limited.
A scale, say, from -3 to +3 would provide seven levels of reader satisfaction response.
Blue Sky Stuff, I know, but maybe possible.

Enough said.
