Actually, i was a bit miffed because of the nature of the job. You don't need any "work ethic" to do that particular job: put mail in correct pigeon hole, hand lecturer key to video cabinet, etc.
Like I said, a monkey with a minimal work ethic could manage it. But I fancied it so as I could read for my doctorate in the quiet hours, and get paid for it. Not many jobs like that around! :'(

The fact that the North wanted to place anti-seccession measures on the South to become a seperate nation and dictate its policies were akin GB doing the same thing to the colonials. I believe the south would have eventually freed the slaves which would have been better for them as accomodations/assimilation could have taken place instead of the sud ...[text shortened]... ....after the war. Read a good and unbiased history of the Civil War to get the true picture....
That aside, if you really want your history to be fun, read the Harry Flashman series by George MacDonald Fraser. He's a fictional Victorian English character in the 19th century who manages to get into most of the world's hot spots of his time - the Boxer Rebellion, the Indian Mutiny, the retreat out of Afghanistan, Isandhwlana, the Charge of the Light Brigade, Bighorn, Harper's Ferry and many more. It's fun because he's a liar, bully, cheat, womaniser and coward. But, even more, Fraser's facts are meticulously researched - he takes real events and just inserts his character into the situation while bringing alive the culture, politics and times. Of course, his observer (Flashman) has a biased Victorian view, but his writings are based on actual accounts.
