I would think that a champion of the working class such as yourself would appreciate when people of working and poor classes wrest from their corporate, fat cat employers a wage in accordance with the revenue of that corporation. The Yankees are truly a model business corporation with well paid employees, satisfied customers and an unparalleled record of success. It is no surprise that a business such as the Tigers run by skinflints has unhappy employees, disgruntled fans and a history of failure. Perhaps in the socialist workers paradise to come all baseball teams will be required to have exactly equal levels of skill and acheivement so that fans of miserable squads like the Tigers will be able to say their team is as good as everybody else's. But while this may (I emphasize "may"😉 be a desirable concept for my grandson's T-ball league, it is hardly worthy of our National Pastime.
If the Tigers could afford to have a $194,663,079 payroll I'm sure we could have won a few more of those games.
Well, the Tiger Collapse is coming down to wire: since August 7th, the "Best Team in Baseball[PFFT!]" is 11-21 and their 10 game lead is down to 1 over the Twins and 3 over the White Sox. Yet, there are still fools out there picking the Tigers to win the division! The braintrust at TCW can only shake our mighty craniums in pity at such folly. While it is true the Tigers have the easiest schedule and that it looks like the Twins won't have 2 of their top 3 starters for the rest of the year, we are confident that the BTB[P!] will blow it. The one question which remains is whether they might still take the wild card spot over the ChiSox, who play a three game set in Minnesota the final weekend of the season. We shall see; the Tigers play in Chicago next week.
Well, No1, the Tigers are in. We clinched our spot in the playoffs tonight, thanks to yet another drubbing of KC. Our first playoff berth in 19 years. But the Twins also won to keep our lead at 1.5 games. 6 games to go for us and 7 for Minnesota. Not only that, but we passed up both NY teams by .003 percentage points to become the "best team in baseball" once again. If we maintain our division lead then you'll have to play Minnesota in the first round and we'll get Oakland.
Plus Kenny Rogers is 6-1 with a 1.72 ERA in August and September. So much for his anticipated "choke."

May I ask when the Twins last won, and when the Tigers last won? I'm on dial up or I'd go searching now.
Plus, some of you sport nuts know right off hand.

A few weeks ago, I boldly predicted that the Tigers, "the best team in Baseball [PFFT!]"would start failing apart as they entered the stretch with a tough schedule. I foresaw that the Tigers would go a mere 8-15 over the their next 23 games. I was scoffed at by the "experts" here.
We are now 10 games into this period and the Tigers are 3-7. T ...[text shortened]... ger excuses are welcome to post here if they can take the mockery sure to be heaped on them.
for the third time running...
but then it turned out not to be.
(But I thought I'd mention it anyway!)
Hooray for EUROPE!!! 😀

The last time the Tigers made it to the playoffs was in 1987, where they were defeated by the Twins.

Er..in the AL championship series, I mean. 😳
I had hopes your Tigers would need to face the Yanks on the way to the WS and take them out. I want to see the team I want to win the whole thing also take out the team I don't want to see win.
A Tiger's Twin's match wouldn't be as exciting to me as Tiger's Yanks. That is the only reason.
I won't mind at all if the Twins knock the Yankees off... but I'd really love to see your Tigers do it... I guess if they win their division they won't need to face the Yankees unless they meet in the ALC's.

The White Sox's september collapse handed the Tigers the wild card, however. Congratulations to them even though they have stunk for the last two months; I can't think of anyone who picked them to make the playoffs before the season started.

A short series is always a roll of the dice, but the Tigers will be (rightfully) heavy underdogs against the now healthy (with the possible exception of the Big Unit) Yankees.
EDIT: Kenny Rogers got in playoff form by being shelled by the Royals with a chance to clinch the division on the line.
Originally posted by no1marauderI was at that game yesterday. 4 hours and 37 minutes of misery. It was, without a doubt, the worst game I have ever had the misfortune to endure.

Still, it's all even and all the rest of the cliches now. Get some decent pitching and who knows?
